Moving to England

I got my illusions of the Constables walking around with just a night-stick shattered when my plane had a refueling stop at London's Gatwick airport on my way home from the first Gulf war. The constables were carrying MP5s outside our terminal....

Well, off to a good start. We landed in London, but not one of our bags did, not even my daughter's car seat or my son's pack-n-play. Luckily my MSRx was in my carry on, but my DX6 was in a checked bag. We ended up getting out of the airport 2 hours late, but I did get to see one of my fellow passengers get arrested. British cops sound so polite with their little accents.

what for?

I guess he got drunk, he wasn't listening to the flight staff and was bothering other passengers. It was nice though, I told my 3yr old the cops were because of her, she stopped fussing REAL fast.

Good thinking. I'm still trying to figure out how to get my niece who's that age to go to bed without complaining when I come to visit.

LOL, thats one of the two things I always have problems with on a plane, the new borns and drunks. of course its not the babies fault so I don't mind that, but when it comes to drunks it can be very annoying. I've seen people start drinking at about 10am when their flight wasn't till the afternoon.

I just wish more people would feed their baby out of the bottle on takeoff and landing it naturally pops their ears so they dont start screaming in pain

Jack Daniels in the bottle ought to keep them quiet for a while, until the sky marshals arrests them and their mom for drunk and disorderly (J/K).

No, no, no. The moms shouldn't drink, only the babies and their father.
That way she's responsible, the babies are sleeping and he doesn't care.

I rented a car for this week, it's time to find a place to live. I also need to find a vehicle to purchase.

Just picked up a couple phones, I got a Galaxy SIII and the wife grabbed an iPhone 5. They are much cheaper here, but the networks aren't as fast, one of the companies told me I could get 2G at my (soon to be) house, WTF is 2G? lol I went with a company that's had great reviews from other yanks over here, especially were we're moving. My wife's phone was 49gbp ($73.50) and mine was 29gbp ($43.50), and we'll both pay 36gbp ($54) a month. So for about $108 (depending on the exchange rate) we get unlimited data, 2000 min, 5000 min to same network #s, and 5000 texts per month, and both phones can be used as mobile wi-fi hotspots and we only paid $117 for an iPhone 5 and Galaxy SIII. So a week in and I've got a house (moving in Fri), cell phones, and passed my driving test, all I have left to do is buy a couple cars and hope I don't get raped on the insurance.

And it just started snowing. I really need some better clothes, this wet/cold crap will take some getting used to.

I always had USAA when I was there and had good rates with them. Yes the internet was stupid slow when I was there, no real such thing as cable internet there yet. Starts cooling off real good in August too....yeah.

I heard they'll be changing all the rules of the road to start driving on the right, like in America.
Apparently, to test the system, the first 2 weeks will just be for trucks. :whhooo:

2G is about the same speed as dial-up internet connections were.

Yeah, I was joking, I've been on 4G for about 2 years now. I can't remember when I had 2G, maybe about 4-5 yrs ago.

Had to grab some air mattresses and basic linens. We're moving into our place tomorrow but we can't get any loaner furniture until Tuesday. We still have a month until our household goods make it in country, then we can schedule the delivery. It's going to be a rough month, we have a 3 yr old and a 1 yr old who are currently lacking in the toy department. Good thing I go to work during the day, momma opted for the "stay at home mom" title....looks like she'll be earning her keep for a while.

My son has somehow changed the pin to the safe in my room, now I'm trying to get £1150 out of it so that I can pay of my wife's car tomorrow. The lady at the front desk is the only one working right now, so she can't come unlock it, looks like I may be waiting for maintenance to open it in the morning.

Oh boy that sucks.... Yeah I remember the camping out in a house everytime we move. We get to do it agin here in a few months. Gotta love it....or not.

So far, we're loving our house...we just wish the telephone/internet/cable company was a little faster at installs. We signed up last week and we received our modem on Friday, now our internet/phone service won't be up and running until the 26th. We still have to wait for our cable to be hooked up, we scheduled that for the beginning of April being as my TVs won't be here until mid April anyway. As previously stated, we have cell phones, but we only get good reception by our windows....luckily we have free hot spot capabilities. So I set my phone up in the window and turn on the hot spot, and I can use my old phone for everything I need as well as my wife's Macbook.

Woohoo! After 34 days, we finally had our unaccompanied baggage delivered.....my kids finally have their toys. It really is like Christmas morning, many of my son's toys are still in their boxes being as his b-day party was only a couple days before we packed up. It's a little sad for me though, one of the boxes had parts for my LST, but my truck isn't here yet. :( Luckily, my main shipment will be here on Monday. Now I just have to learn magic and make the stuff from my last house fit into one that's much MUCH smaller. :screwy:
