I finally got orders out of Barksdale, I've been here since '06 and have been trying to leave since......'06. Looks like I will be heading to RAF Lakenheath which is about 1.5 hours north of London. I should be there for about 4 yrs unless I decide to extend, the wife and I are pretty excited and really looking forward to move (just not the moving).

You need to drop a PM to WoodiE so he can give you an 'active duty' patch in your profile. FriggenJoey has one, and some of us have the 'Veteran" patch.

Excited? Really? can't imagine having to move out of the US and for so long. Congrats though since its something your looking forward too.

Yea man, I was in Japan for 3 yrs and loved it. I have had too many bad experiences here at Barksdale and I'm ready for a fresh start.

SchrodeMode, Thank you for your service! Glad to hear you're actually excited to be going some place different. I've got a good friend working for the US Gov on a military base over in Germany and he's having a blast. Get to do a lot of traveling.

Thanks guys. Yea Woodie, we are looking forward to traveling, kind of regret not doing enough in Japan but we were young and enjoyed camping on the beach too much.

Well, I figured I could revive this thread. It's crunch time now, I have less than 50 days before I'm in England. I still have to sell my wife's car and I'll be selling my truck last. We are also planning my son's first birthday, it'll be four days before the movers pack us up. They're estimating 45 days before our shipment arrives, I'm expecting 60 though. I'm still undecided on bringing my workbench, I would have to get a newer base house in order for me to fit it. I'm 99% sure I'll be tearing it down and putting it in storage, I guess I'll have to get a small bench for while I'm there.

And I've got to get my RCs back together!! I want to ship trucks with a box of spare parts, not all parts.

Congrats on the move. I have a friend in the CIA that had to go to England to expedite a warrant, he told me he almost didn't come back, that's how much he loved it out there. Send some picts for us..

First let me express my pure, deep, bitter jealousy. I had a slot open for Lakenheath coming out of Korea and instead I am going to Hawaii. I want to go back really bad. I was there from 96-00 and really liked it. I was stationed at Mildenhall with the 352 SOG but lived on Laenheath for half of it. There is just So so so much to do there. Just north of there is RAF Feltwell with is an old grass field bomber base so if you decided to get into flying....amazing place. So contrats (kinda). Oh the port to ship your car out of south of you is in the "Nice" side of town... (cough cough). I am sure you will like it there, I miss it a lot. As far as not living in the states I have not lived there in 5 1/2 years. So by the time I retire out in a few years I will have spent over half of it gone....and I am ok with that.

Yea, I can't wait to get back overseas, I'm ready to travel. I'm also tired of the slow pace of a bomber base, I'm ready to jump back in with the fighters. I know what you're talking about, I did 3yrs in Okinawa and I'm hoping I can ride the rest of my career out overseas.

I was four years in Okinawa right before I came to Korea but I was on the North side of base with the Rescue unit and then the tankers.

Well, I packed up all of my RC gear, and it's on it's way to England. I'm really hoping I didn't just send it all to it's doom. I just noticed on one of my MANY forms, they have "radio transmitters" as a prohibited item. I have heard multiple stories of knives being taken out of the shipment and destroyed, I will be pretty upset if they destroy my RCs. Maybe they won't notice, the only way would be if they looked at everything on my shipping docs and noticed the 4 boxes that say "RC cars/parts".

Most of the prohibited was a carry over from AM and FM radios. I know lots of people that flew out at RAF Feltwell, I have moved my crap around the world a couple times and so far no problems.....

Yeah, I figured that.......but I have horrible luck. I wouldn't be surprised if someone posts a video of my RCs being destroyed, the video would be posted a week before I get my shipment. I am the guy who was in a car accident in Japan and on the way to the hospital, my ambulance was hit by a dump truck.

Nope, I thought they clipped a curb, it had me rocking all over, then I heard her say that the dump truck hit them right in the side door. I said WTF, flock this sheet (edited) and push me the rest of the way, obviously I'm not meant to be in vehicles today.

Wow, I've seen and been to crashes that involved an ambulance , but never one with a transport in it. Did the the truck not see the lights, did they have the lights going. I recently hit and totaled out a limo with my squad car, only because the traffic light changed green for me and the limo driver decided to take a left turn in front of me as i was doing about 60 with lights and siren going. People need to learn to STOP when they see emergency equipment comming, WTF. Are you ok..
