my motor is getting hot on my slash 4x4 and i think it is the gear ratio. What whould be the best gear set up for a 11.1 3cell 30s 60s burst 5000mah lipo battery?please help i dont even know if i should gear up or down .I have stock gears 13t pinon and 54t spur gear.

Have you tried the 19/54 gearing?

Gearing up will cause more load on the motor and more heat. I had the same problem with my Castle Sidewinder SCT. A fan or heat sink will help out greatly. Also cutting a whole in the front window of the truck will allow more air flow. If you have a motor that allows you to adjust the timing, slowing down the timing will lower the temp

Their was a Guy back in 2010 that burned up a $200.00 Maxamps 3Cell pack running a Slash with STock gearing. They where making a big fuss that MaxAMps wouldn't take care of him even though he was out of Warranty but Maxamps replaced it for him.

Apparently Traxxas specifically reco's now NOT to run a 3 cell pack with that Vehicle.

I'm not a Traxxas basher, I like Traxass fine and have spent plenty of Money on their stuff over the years. Let's be honest though, Traxass ESC's aren't American Made Novak or Tekin in terms of quality! I'm sure your ESC can't handle the Amperage/Voltage of that battery.

So, I'd start by going down to a 7.4V 2 Cell Lipo pack. I'm willing to be that you'll be fine after that. The stock gearing you have is probably Ideal for the tire size and everything else. So leave the gearing the hell alone and c what happens with a 2s Battery.

Go Research Rc Vehicle Gearing on google and get to reading dude. I'm to tired to write a gearing Disertation and what SlickBearing said is correct.
