Ok fellas I am kinda frustrated here.

I have my MBX5 and I acquired an engine and the sprospec or non prospec engine mounts will not allw the pullstart to be mated to the chassis. I got the GS racing mounts as they are adjustable but the holes to line up on the chassis are not wide enough.

Anyone else have a pullstart on their MBX5?

Please don't burn me on the pullstart thing. I know you racers and mugen owners want to yell at me for getting a pullstart but the mill was cheap and damn it I like pullstarts.

Anyone have a solution? different engine mounts?

Engine is a Picco Omega 21.
Mount are GS racing and Mugen.
Ride is MBX5.

Anyone?

2 words.....Starter Box!

Yeah, I love busting your balls!
hey blue guy...oh yeah thats me too. Hey candy..ass stick your airbrush up your..

I can't even get the motor mounted on the chassis or I would!

I assume it's because the case for the pullstart pushes the crankcase up so that it doesn't reach the motor mount, right?

the Motor mount fits on the engine but the mounting holes don't reach the holes on the chassis.... I can't win.

How far off are you?
With the pullstart on the engine, how high would you say the mounts need to be to reach the chassis from the crankcase?

I had the same problem on my old MP7.5, I just got some long screws that could reach and tightened the hell out of them haha, worked fine for me. There was a tad of gear chadder because the engine was kinda at an angle to the spur but my bearings were fine as well as the gears. Its a pain but a better solution is to put a washer or two inbetween the mounts and chassis, that will lift up the whole engine level instead of slanted like I had. (I'm lazy) I now have a P5 and waiting for my starter box to come in :D

Just for quick reference, the basic 2-block motor mounts on my Mayhem are .8" high and the chassis mounting holes are 1.75" apart.

if you look at the GS Racing mounts, the holes on the mounts do not match the Mugen Chassis. SO I can bolt the engine on the mounts but after that I am stuck.

How far off are you? Are you willing to re-drill the chassis or drill and tap the motor mount? What about shimming the Mugen mount? Perhaps some aluminum stock to raise it up a bit????

I will have to re try the mount but I am sure that the P/S will get in the way. Great...

Is this the mount?

yup the red x , hit the nail right on the head...lol Shall I takes some pix?

hey thats what I saw the first 4 times I refreshed. LOL That is one of the two mugen ones I have. I have the Non Prospec ones similar to the opne pieces just doesn't connect. and the adjustable GS ones.

Hm. tough call. Sounds like all of the will require some modification to work. What about mounting the mount to the chassis and then fabricating a spacer to go between the top of the mount and the engine block?

give me a minute and I will take a shot of the mounts. My Prospec I returned it and got the GS ones now I am stuck only with the Mugen mounts( 2 piece) and those.

Ok so I took longer. Here are the pics

Any ideas? Can't shim the mill higher as it will be too unstable.

Thanks

Jon

try using the mugen 2 piece mounts. if you have to, grind off some material from the back of the mounts to clear the PS. then get some washers to space the mounts up off the chassis so that the PS assembly clears the chassis. you will probibly need longer motor mount bolts. or you could measure the distance between your chassis slots, and the distance from the bottom of the mounting tabs on the engine to the bottom of the PS. then take those specs with you to the hobby shop with a set of calipers and start looking for something that fits. ofna mounts may be a good bet.

also if you can measure the spacing between the slots on your chassis, i can tell you if PRP mounts would fit, they are like ofna mounts (adjustable for and aft) but dont use the spacer chassis plate, and are made for pullstarts.

do you have the MBX5? Can you get some pics of your set up?
