This Traxxas EMaxx was my first real RC. It has been a good dependable truck. It has sat for years. Recently I needed to put a new esc into it. Ironically the esc is older than the truck. It works and it is new. I have been given 4 sets of 6s Lipos so I was like well I need a BL vehicle. Being a poor hobbiest I thought let me put a BL motor into my big truck. Not sure if the esc is visable but its a hugh current Novak and yes its zipped tied in on a carbon plate i made at work.

Would a single BL motor be able to power this rig? Or do I need to do like what is done and run a dual motor setup?
Yeah you should definitely be able to run a single motor. How heavy is the rig? I'd look at some like 1/8 scale motors around 1500-2000kv if it's under say 15lbs and a 150A ESC. If it's over 15lbs I'd look at 1/5 scale motors say 1000kv +/- and a 160A + ESC. Will be spendy for sure.

Is that the novak 828-hv? That thing is rated for 30V+ and 500Amps! Crazy!

A 150A esc and 4074 brushless would be plenty for that. The ERBEv1 came with the mamba monster 2 (supposedly rated for 120A, but many pull more through it) and a 4074 2200kv motor.

You could get one of those lipo alarms, strap it down somewhere and use a balance tap extension to tie to it. Then it would be less likely to come loose on you and the alarms are loud (at least the ones I have are), so you would hear it whenever the voltage of one of the cells dropped to where ever you have it set.
