RC Driving Style
  1. Racing
  2. Crawling
Good morning all. Been out of it for a lot of years but now that I'm getting close to retirement I need something to keep my brain and hands sharp.

I am in the process of building a Mues MB 24 after buying 2 kits. I really like the body style and 1:24 are a little more challenging to build than the larger 1:10, 1:8 scales that I had built in the past. The first will be a crawler with all the usual, heavy axles, 53 deg cramp, 63mm tires 49mm shocks, etc. but the second I would like to turn in to more of a desert racer/runner.

Any suggestions on going about this outside of going the Patrick'sRC route?

Welcome to RC Talk!

I looked at PatrickRC, looks unavailable ATM.

Edit - I just noticed you said MB24 in your op. 🤦🏼‍♂️

Meus also offers a cage+chassis in the MB24, maybe just leave the lexan off?

I know Furitek just came out with a new cage kit but it's for the 30's.

What I would like to do is keep everything but make it like a short course truck. Maybe an 18 T motor but I would like recommendations on say axles and transmissions and the like. Looking for speed.

With the worm gears of the SCX24, I don't think I'd try for much speed. One reason is worm gearing will get a bit warm at faster speeds. Another thing is, unlike a ring and pinion, you can't grab the wheels and rotate the drivetrain because the worm gearing will not allow that. Meaning every time you are driving at speed and hit your brake, you have a violent load applied to your worm gears.

The better option would be to grab a set of FCX24M axles and make them fit. Not the regular FCX24, as they use Portals, which would be kinda similar on the devastation going from full speed to braking.but the FCX24M uses straight axles and a ring and pinion gear in the diff.

You could probably just use the whole drivetrain from the 24M, as it also has a 2-speed transmission. It would be some custom fab work, but you sound like you're up for the challenge. Grab an FCX24M and compare parts. If nothing else, you'll have two cool 24th scale RC's 😉
