I was into RCNitro cars about 4 years ago. Had a T-maxx 2.5, couple of Ofna buggies, 4tec street car and buncha other little things. I sold everything and put a downpayment on a car.

Needless to say it's a hobby that I miss.

So as I was browsing through my local CL. Someone listed a T-maxx 2.5 and Savage 25 with extras for $400. I called and we settled on $350.

He said he hadn't run them in about 1.5 years and they've been sitting there. It kinda made me not buy them but I took the chance anyways.

Came home with
(1) T-Maxx 2.5
(1) Savage 25
(5) 7.2v batteries
(2) Battery chargers
(4)rechargeable glow plug igniters
(1) Digital temperature monitor
Set of Street tires and wheels for the T-maxx
after run oil new bottle
5 sets of glow plugs
carry case for Savage
misc parts and bodies
Even a gallon of gas that's still good.

The Savage was in EXCELLENT condition and he claimed only 10 tanks through it and I would say thats true because over all, it looks GREAT.
I oiled it and well primed it and it started RIGHT UP. :)

The T-maxx physically was in pretty good shape, but the engine was stuck and I couldn't spin the crank wheel AT ALL. Thought it was stuck and done for.
Apparently this seller left the fuel in the tank and the engine when he stored them so all the gunk was left after the fuel eveporated. I filled the Tmaxx engine up with Nitro and let it sit for a few minutes. and Boy did all the gunk come out, did this about 4 times and engine was loose and free.

one push of the button and it off and running as well.

So you guys think I did ok at $350 for all the stuff above?

Few questions:
What other steps should I take as far as cleaning the engines go since they been sitting for year and half?

I'm actually very familiar with tuning and consider my self to be decent when it comes to temperature tuning and just ok when it comes to fine tuning.

So I'm back in the game and hopefully will be visiting this forum quiet often.

See you guys/gals around

I would say you got a great deal.

Welcome to the site.

seems pretty good, the savage alone was probably worth the money the maxx was like a kicker to help seal the deal.

nice score!

Welcome to the site! I have a T-Maxx and a new Savage X SS. They make a great combination because when I'm woking on the Savage, my super dependable T-Maxx is always ready to go.

these guys are just blowin smoke up yur bum...you got screwed, cause now you have to buy a whole bunch of upgrades to actually enjoy the hobby..I mean who enjoys stock equipment right?....

pay no mind to me
Soy una cabesa de pinga.....si
and you did get an awsome deal no matter what I said....

Ha Ha Thanks for the reassurance. I'll put some pics up for kicks later.

Tell me about how expensive this hobby is. Last time I was in it I used to starve myself so I can buy the hi-torque servos, aluminum a-arms and so on and so on.

I picked up 4 glow plugs and a qt of fuel (they only had a qt :() and it set me back $40!!

slowly but surely I'll get there :).

I'm already eying the 3.3 for the Tmax and a .28 for the Savage.....DAMN YOU EXPENSIVE HOBBY.

Welcome to RCNT.

This is an addiction, and you just DIDN'T have the self control to stay away from it.
Sorry, but you'll get no therapy here, only another fix.

OS has a drop in replacement for the T-Maxx that is comparable to the 3.3 that I like better than the traxxas engine. It's the OS 18tm. They just stopped making the OS 18tm because they are now making the OS21tm but that's a lot of power, and you would really have to beef up the drivetrain. The OS 18tm should do ok with just a few upgrades. RCCarKing.net is where I was going to buy mine, they still had some in stock a few weeks ago. Also, you should look into RPM A-Arms instead of the aluminum, they are SOOOOO much better than a lot of the aluminum ones, especially when comparing them to simialr priced aluminum. You can get a whole set for about 40 bucks, I think that should be the first mod everyone does to a T-Maxx.

surendering is the first step to admitting you have a problem..

i see we have another relapse.. it only takes one time.. but you know youve been setting yourself up for this.. you thought you were strong, had good will power.. pssh. i dont need help, i can do it on my own.. you thought you were safe sitting on the couch just reading your rc car magizine, ya right, thats like putting a crack head in a crack house!!.. your addiction has been outside doing push-ups this whole time,, getting stronger and stronger.. just waiting.. then !!BANG!!.. it hits you, your just gona go and "look", then why did you check your bank statement, before you left the house? you can lie to me and you can lie to them,, but you can't lie to yourself... you are an addict, and you always will be.. but you say "i have a nice car, a roof over my head, i eat daily, cash in my pockit" oh no.. its just a hobby...WRONG!!.. nitting is a hobby, collecting postcards is a hobby....you have a problim, and we wont help you.. we may say were your "freind".. but we are addicts like you.. we'l say anything to keep you around..even.. oh ya, that was a good deal.....AH, JUST KIDDING,, WELCOME BACK!!=devil=devil=devil

I wouldn't run anything more than an OS 15 in a maxx when it's stock...it's still a fun toy to play with..anything over a .15 and it's better to just build one complete custom, because when it's all said and done, as you will have done that anyway.....

I totally forgot to list that the T-MAXX already HAS THE RPM A-ARMS lol. I guess this deal turned out to be sweeter than I thought.
I will look into the engine.

I know back in 2003 I had a picco 21 I believe but I'm not sure if it was in my 4tec or buggy..... but it was great. Is picco still making great engines?

i see we have another ........KIDDING,, WELCOME BACK!!=devil=devil=devil

Haha Thank you :) I know exactly what you mean. I been trying so hard but when that tax return came and the urge got even worse. When you have an urge and the money to persue it.... it's SOOOOO hard to not just do it. I cashed out $600 to drive to my local hobby shop and pick-up a Savage SS 4.6, just something I been looking at for a while. Then I just hopped onto CL and nothing, refreshed the page and BAM, right that second there it was. I was the first person to call this guy 2 minutes after he listed it. I Guess it was meant to be. It took me an hour to get to his house, he tells me that atleast 10 people have called within the hour that it took me to drive there. Some even offered the full $400 (nice guy to have kept his word to me :) ) and here I am reading this forum from top to bottom and then from bottom to top AT WORK!!! I just wanna go home and play. I'm 25 and I feel like a 12 yeard old who just wants to get out of school, go home and play with his toys.

GRRR
