I have had my LRP .30 spec 2 going on 4 months. Its been in storage for a while, when I first pulled it out I had and air leak somewhere in my fuel setup. So i replaced all fuel lines, fuel filter, pressure tested tank, green slimed needles put new exhaust silicone gaskets, even checked the piston and sleeve. Everything was ready to go, or so i thought. I go out today to retune the LRP, I Had the needles at stock, and was working to get up to temp. it is 90 deg F outside with about 70% humidity. I had the block up to about 170, but i noticed smoke by the exhaust, and the temp behind the block by the exhaust was upwards of 230. It was running fine, but I've never ran into a problem like this before. it hit 230 before an 1/8th of a tank was ran through. It is the stock HPI pipe that comes with an xl cause my 056 is trashed. Please offer some advice my daughter leaves in a week and a half and would love to have this running right for her.

thanks

is it fully broke in? somewhere i read that it can take upto a couple gal for the lrp to get broke in all the way. also read that you can get temp spikes in that time. i dont really think 230 is a bad temp. if you had smoke and truck was running good no worries I'm guessin

230F is fine as long as you have proper smoke....In fact as long as you have good smoke I wouldnt worry about engine temp unless it starts getting up around 280-290....i wouldnt run hotter than that.

I had read about it taking a gal or so. I didn't think it would need more more than 1.5 gals through it, but if so I will work on her some more.
yes I had good smoke, my worry was that if i was getting a 230 reading from the back and a 170 reading off the plug that I might fry the engine before I realize it. I always tune for sound and smoke, but the drastic difference in temperature was my main concern. I realized I should rephrase soemthing.

The smoke is coming from between the rear of the block and the exhaust header.

I suggest that when you are doing your tuning have the fuel tank 1/2 full. If you get a reasonable tune with a 1/2 tank then you will be very slightly rich with a full tank and very slightly lean with a near empty tank.

Too many people get a killer tune with a full tank and then have an engine that is super hot due to being too lean when the tank is near empty.

Keep and eye on the "o" rings in the high speed needle. I have to change mine at least yearly - I run a LRP .28.

Hey Guys, I had also LRP ZR30 spec2 engine and I think as what they had say 230 F temp is still safe as long you had a good blue smoke in the exhaust. This engine is very strong and I had 3 Lrp engines with different sizes. And I used 25% nitro and O.S. #10 plug every summer and #8 if it is winter.

You need to take your temp readings from the plug. Smoke isnt supposed to come out anywhere except the stinger on the pipe...I would fix that first
