 What is the best way to deal with an orion wasp 0.28 engine that goes lean on startup?I read all the tips here and how too's.I would like to get you guys opinions on this motor,It is real powerful and runs good right before it goes lean at idle and trys to take off through the park.I am gonna seal it up tonight but what do you guys think other than throw it in the trash.I am determined so save this engine and use it or sell it but i wont sell something that wont tune up right. All help is greatly appreciated,Thanx,Tim

Definitely seal it up. Sounds like a potential air leak. Is your idle very high at startup...and then it lowers a bit? Give me some more details on what's it's doing.....

Put a good front bearing in it, make sure the exhaust gasket is sealing properly...two biggest issues with thse POS. X2 on the sealing it up.

The engine startsup and goes to a high rev pretty quickly, keeps doing it regardless of throttle position or idle screw.

Definitely sounds like an air leak in the engine itself.

Or, your needles are adjusting themselves on you.

Had my LRP28S3 lean the HSN out on me after about 15 seconds of running. Took me about half a tank of fuel to realize what was happening. Then I just held it up by the roll bar and watched the needles as I rev'd it and sure enough, the HSN screwed itself! <place bad pun here>

I replaced the HSN o-ring and it's been fine since. The engine is about 2 years old with no real maintenance. Just heavy ARO for winter sitting time and a general cleaning/inspection once a year.
