Definitely sounds like an air leak in the engine itself.
Or, your needles are adjusting themselves on you.
Had my LRP28S3 lean the HSN out on me after about 15 seconds of running. Took me about half a tank of fuel to realize what was happening. Then I just held it up by the roll bar and watched the needles as I rev'd it and sure enough, the HSN screwed itself! <place bad pun here>
I replaced the HSN o-ring and it's been fine since. The engine is about 2 years old with no real maintenance. Just heavy ARO for winter sitting time and a general cleaning/inspection once a year.
