Alright, alright, alriiiiiiiight…

Reckon I’ll start from the beginning…

This is not my first private/“backyard” track.. This IS-however, the first one in MY backyard..

The house is older, smaller, and on a few acres. The deck is roughly 6’ high, and on the highest point of the entire yard. It’s also situated dead center of the house, AND the yard. Perfect imo..

The “footprint” of the track is roughly 175’x80’, respectively. This is designed to be a 1/8 buggy/truggy off-road deal, though will be fine for a 1/12 Jammin’ CRT.5 truggy, LC Racing mini trugg, or Team Associated Reflex 14B (or 14T), just in case I should happen to possibly add to the fleet… You know-just in case…

Not planning anything too insane for the initial layout, and it’ll be 10’ wide lanes MINIMUM. I may very well make the far lane that’s a decent straightaway 12’ wide, and some turns may fall into a 12’ width as well.. Aside from a fairly massive “supercross” jump I built specifically for the track; it’s gonna be pretty straight forward with a handful of table tops, doubles, and rollers. I’m not sure if I’ll do any crossover jumps or not yet-as I have already settled more or less on the layout.. That COULD change though.. we shall see..

First thing I wanted to do was get the grass gone PERMANENTLY… I started with a torch to see how it would go… I did only the outermost footprint of the left hand, and right hand sides..

Looking straight down from the right side of the deck (driver’s stand ) You can see the 4” clean out for my septic… We’ll discuss this momentarily unfortunately…

Right hand side obviously, and made about a 45deg from the deck over… There are some massive pine tree roots outside of that..

There a slight grade, and natural runoff from rain water clearly visible in the yard.. Not a big deal.

Left hand side.. I stopped roughly 20ish feet before the property line. The neighbors are about 200’ from me, and there’s a fairly substantial, naturally wooded “buffer” between us-except for the actual grass lawns. (These lazy facks hire a kid to cut theirs ONCE each year.. it’s usually 4’ tall legit…)

About 15’ back, and looking toward the right hand side.

From the other end, looking down what will be the far lane..

Self explanatory… I’ll take care of a good amount of this vegetation in the one tree line.. Again-not a big deal..

Ok, so as far as the torching-I wanted to see how effective, how long to do it, the mileage on propane bottles I’d get, and ultimately-how long it’d take for grass/weeds to come back…

Takes FOREVER. Crab grass, and centipede SUUUUUUUCKS.. Due to that last bit, obviously the fuel mileage sucks a bag-o-dongz as well.. Meh.. And after two weeks-bright green grass poking up through the ash, and the moss that the left hand side of my ultra moist yard is plagued with-did not even FLINCH.. I want the grass GONEZO, so that when I hit it with some equipment, there not a bunch of trash being mixed in with my dirt in case I do NOT have a couple 20yd trucks leave some sifted red clay, I can make use with what I have, and not be ultra dirty, and inconsistent. It’s MUCH easier to take care of NOW, than every waking moment I’m building, and maintaining it. Owning/maintaining a 1/8 off-road track is a second FULLTIME job.

On to option #2…

Horticulture grade 45% Vinegar solution
Dawn dish soap
Morton’s Iodized table salt
Hand held pump sprayer

This application requires me to blow alllllll leaves, and pine needles from the grass to not only eliminate further trash mixed in with my dirt, but also so that the solution gets full contact with everything I want eliminated, and at the same time sinking into the soil as much as possible-as this only kills what it comes in contact with. Perfect time to take care of the vegetation in the tree line at the same time. Ripped out what I could, cut what I couldn’t rip out, and blew leaves in there to “get two birds stoned at the same time”, or however that goes..

At least the torch would come in clutch for something..

Some leaves that would’ve been excessive within the tree line, and were a bit wet-so I burned them on their own.. Had to babysit both foreverrrrr..

Muuuuuuch better than as shown in the previous post I’d say..

There’ll be a better shot of the initial burned path on the outer footprint so that y’all can see how effective that was.. or wasn’t..

Each sprayer full yields 2gal of solution..
1gal of 45% vinegar
2cups salt
2tbsp dawn

This stuff is super hardcore, so proper PPE in effect for sure. I don’t wanna get chemical burns, and I do wanna be able to breathe in the forseeable future…

FWIW-I do NOT normally do selfies-I’m a man-with testicles… My boy called while I was finally spraying & diggin on my best Spotify “Stoner Rock” playlist over my new AirPods from the ever thoughtful Mrs. Littlemotor, and it was easier to snap a photo and send it via text than to pull off PPE, answer, blah, blah, you get it..

While I was laying down 16gal of solution, I noticed my 4” clean out was a little damp.. FML…

Lots of fun to be had here courtesy of the Kubota.. Previous tenants were absolute crayon eating, inbred, douchebags, and must’ve poured 8,136.2gal of grease down the drain while they weren’t taking absolutely fabulous care of the rest of the property, and building super sweet candy shacks in the backyard without asking.. Also found Tampon plastic APPLICATORS, ziploc bags, and a Men’s white tubesock clogging the 4” drain pipe about 45’ out into the leach field.. Tremendous.. I didn’t have any work planned or anything…

Backfilled, and left some loose stuff to push back over the tank after it dried out some.. The vinegar did work-but I want it annihilated out here…

Definitely a change from the green… It absolutely did SOMEthing..

This looks TONS better.. The moss, and green grass on the other hand…

This spot is definitely going in the right direction..

So I blew leaves, and pine needles AGAIN, and mixed up the world’s cheapest bleach, and went to work… Thanks Amazon..

A little over a week later, and I’m not seeing a big enough difference, so let’s go with the bigdog.. Right after I blow more leaves, and pine needles… Ugggggh-FML.. Just over here blowing my daamned life away, I swear lolz..

Also brought the mower out on the lowest setting short of unbolting the wheels, and just dragging it behind me.. I want this bleach IN THE DIRT.

Guess it’s that time again… I just refuse to splurge for a bunch of RM43 for a multitude of reasons.. Let’s get these leaves and pine needles outta here.. I’ve had enough..

I JUST stopped 10’ into pass #2, to talk to the girl, and it quit.. Super..

I borrowed this guy, and I was raised to return things in as good, or better condition than it was loaned in.. So long story short-I lost fuel delivery. Went through the system, and fixed multiple issues, then lost fire… Went through the ignition system, fixed a bunch MORE issues, redid his points, and we got fire. Went to start it-still nothing.. Ok-I’ll tear into this 70+ year old cast iron carburetor.. Clean as a whistle.. Not ideal for what I was expecting.. Alright, let’s check the work from the previous rebuild kit installed… WTFFFF… I can’t believe this thing EVER ran after the last rebuild-Jesus.. I do it MY way, reinstall, go to fire it up-NOTHING. No spark AGAIN.. excellent…

I HAD fire at the points.. let’s check at the plugs.. Nope. No fire.. let’s LOOK at the plugs-#3 is not even finger tight. I check the rest.. They’re all good. Tighten all 4, and pop the cap once more.. Fire at the points still.. Ok-brand new Chinesium cap, and rotor button.. Pull up the contact spring for the rotor button in case it’s falling juuuuuust shy of the coil terminal in the cap. Reinstall. We now have fire to the plugs. Yahtzee.

Pull the choke, hit the starter button, and we are in bidness…

Finally..

Guess I’ll work on the track now…

Finally some progress that you can actually see DEFINITIVELY… We have dirt boys..

I’ve been dumping about 20’ into the straightaway for a tabletop, or small double.. I run nitro as well as electric, and I don’t need to have a “rod chucker” of a straight.. Electrics are boring AF when simply maintaining wide open as well, so this will help..

I’ve been dumping here, as it’s gonna end up the landing for the massive “supercross” jump I built.. May pull it back some from the turn, but we will see.. Need to get the ramp, and truggy out to verify.. Will undoubtedly be big air, but don’t wanna go more than about 25-30’ out from the jump.. I’ll share photos of said ramp in the following post..

It's lookin good. I also tried the propane tank torch to kill weeds on my track. While it was fun listening to the jet engine noise and burning sh!t (got too close to one of my pipes and melted it a little) - FIRE! FIRE! FIRE! - it just wasn't worth the time or propane.

Can't wait to see the finished product! Have fun!!

And here is the one wooden ramp I’m planning to run out there for “supercross” style big air.. They do shiit like this at the Psycho Nitro Blast race occasionally, and it’s mobile as I split it up. 10’ lanes, so I did one 6’, and one 4’ wide. This ghey iPhone takes wonky photos anytime there are straight lines being shown in “perspective”.. My studs are all true, straight, and square. All ramp sides are identical as well.

I’ll be throwing down several coats of “Rain Gard” water sealer, and it should last a couple years before I need to replace it. I just like the idea of a wooden ramp for this job. The rest will all be dirt.

So again-this is just as of today. I’ve got a bit more grading to do, then grab the Kubota, and get on some jumps. Also need to seal up the two 3’ launch ramps, and I’m predicting between 800-1000’ of 4” corrugated, black, drain pipe. I’ll be grabbing about 200 12” spikes, and (200) steel 1.5” fender washers.

We are getting there..
