Lipo kings, help!

I have a slash with a 15t hpi engine. It has the xl5 in it. I know the xl5 does not have a cut off. What would I need to run lipo on the xl5 and what could i run? How would they compare to say a 7.4 5000mah battery or even the 8.4v stock battery that i run now?

First you would need to add a LiPo cutoff. The LiPo that you mention should have much more punch off the line and the standard battery should give you a higher speed.

the batteries i listed are just nimh... what would be a good lipo size that wont fry an xl5 with a cutoff? are certain cutoffs better than others... any you guys recommend? I am a complete noob lol

In most cases you could have gotten a Novak cut-off module that would allow you to use Lipo's on an ESC that doesn't already have a cut-off built in. HOWEVER since you're running a Slash your XL5 is likely a blue case and in which case the Novak cut-off will NOT WORK.

I'm not aware of any other cutoffs that you could use. You'd be best off replacing the ESC with one that does support Lipo, such as the Castle Creations Sidewinder.

I would recommend a 2s 3000 mAH or larger capacity battery. This will give you 7.4v which the ESC should handle with no problem.

I am running the blue waterproof version yes. So.. hmm.. guess I will stick with nimh and just get some nicer batterys until I do a full overhaul of the slash if I ever do. I like how it is stock just like some stronger and longer run times. Right now I'm runnin the stock 8.4 3000mah nimh.... so may try to find an 8.4 5000mah or something.
