Hello all. Which charger would be a good bang per buck and of decent quality to purchase for micro crawler batteries?? I'm allset with my 1/10 crawlers/bashers but I just got my oldest daughter a redcat ascent 18 and I'm probably buying 2 more tomorrow! I'd like a charger that would handle the smaller batteries and balance them and put them on store more. The charger that comes with these things are OK I guess but I'd like a better one.

Hota D6 Pro
Gens_Ace D300

Guys here recommend the Hota best. I'm looking into one of them too.

Currently running off a skyrc t200 for my off-road cars and it's been serving me well.

Charging my mini b packs which are 1100mah, but at 3amps on both sides, I can get them charged up in 15 minutes and the fan don't even turn on. At the track for my race packs charging at 10amps, does it just perfectly.

what is it you use for your 1/10 scale? if its a decent charger for those paks .it should work just fine on the 1/24 scale packs..I just go the new B6 Neo great little pocket charger .Got it to test but looked on amazon its like 26$ is you have a power supply and a xt 60 squid...

If you have a charger that will do LiPo's already you're already set. Just solder up an adapter cable to go from your charger to your battery.

Said this exact thing. Thanks for confirming my reply..LOL

I have a traxxas ez peak dual battery charger that I bought ad a starter pack but then discovered (I'm new to the hobby) that I could change different brands and I do, my concer is that the micro crawler batteries I'd have are under 1,000mah and I heard somewhere that charging batteries over their mah rating
(1-Amp-1,00mah) should be avoided. And the traxxas charger only had a 1A minimum.
Is this info correct?

I'm not sure about your charger, mine I can set max mah cutoff & a time cutoff, & of course the amp rating, charge rate.

Basically customize the parameters for every battery & it can be stored for next time, not having to punch it all in again.

1,000mAh batteries charged at 1C is 1A. What is the mAh of your batteries? They should be able to handle 2C. Does it say anywhere on the battery what the max charge rate is?

This is the stock battery that came with the the redcat ascent 18 and I'll be using I for a while. I'm just used to storing my batteries and the USB charger doesn't do that. And I'd hate to damage it.

This is the charger I have. Not that customizable lol, at the time I bought this at the beginning of the year I had told myself I only need 1 car, and that changed very quickly! 🤣. I'm able to charge all the 1/10 stuff with this but the little under 1,000mah batteries that I'll be getting will be more difficult (I think) I really don't need a powerful charger (or pricey) just something to take care of the smaller stuff.

That would handle a 1A charge rate.

But if you want a good charger, grab the Hota D6 Pro. You can get one off aliexpress.com fairly cheap, but here in the US, the cheapest price you can get them for is around $117 or so. But the Hota will charge anything.

You would then just need to buy adapter cables to go from XT60 female to a male connector of whatever your battery uses.

But you can of course buy a smaller, less capable charger and charge those little packs. But before you get any deeper into the hobby, I would suggest you get away from smart batteries and chargers as soon as you can. They are way overpriced, and hsve bern known to be problematic. I can think of 2 or 3 times I've seen people have the chargers go bad.

Thank you for the info! I really didn't know anything (still don't lol) about the hobby when I got the starter pack. I just thought, I had a traxxas crawler then I must buy traxxas batteries, and yes they were pricey (for me at least!) I like the batteries, but I only use them in my trx4s once that one breaks I will be buying a regular charger. I have 2 smc 2s for my gorgons as well as two 3s zees plus the traxxas ones. But once the traxxas breaks I'll definitely be buying something different!

I bought this one as a starter pack earlier this year when I got my first crawler and plan to use it until it breaks lol

That's a good plan. I wouldn't buy any more Traxxas batteries either. Just hack the plug off the TRX4 ESC and change it to something more common, like an XT60 or something. Or you could just use an adaptor, since a crawler won't draw that many amps anyway.

I have some xt60s laying around.

Noon question, would I just make the adapter and once done ill plug the balance lead where it goes and the jst connector to the charging port? Right now this battery chargers through what I believe is the balance lead, I just want to make sure I dont blow anything up 🤣🤣

Yeah, exactly. The balance lead is what the charger uses to read the individual cells for balancing the pack. It does the bulk of the charging and discharging through the main power leads.

This video goes into a bit of detail about how LiPos are charged. Worth a watch
