Now just so you know off the bat, this thing only works for one car or whatever passing by your phone camera but I just want to say that I am pretty impressed with it. If you use Iphone just search for Lap Timer and download the Mini4 Lap timer. If you use android there is another one like it and maybe a bit better depending on preference. I have been using it to record lap times around my back yard and have been having a total blast racing myself! I just picked up an Arrma Typhon grom to get back into the hobby as I don't have much time for any hobby but damn this is fun.

I would love to see people learning about and enjoying this free app like I do and see rock crawling progress and people kinda competing for consistency on their own track with their own vehicle etc. There's gotta be a way we can take this hobby from aimless fun to challenging fun without actually being able to get into the racing scene!

I pay @DavidB1126 to sit trackside and say 'BEEP!' every time I go by. 🤣

I always thought that timed obstacles on crawler course would be lots of fun and availibe for pretty much anyone with a crawler.
Something broke down by scale and degree of mods/driver experience too. No special race gear required though.
Something a total noob could have fun doing as well as seasoned drivers.
I am not a crawler guy so this is just a noob idea. 🤷‍♀️

I just think with that simple app alone, we could all have more fun together.. lets say some 2 people start posting similar lap times with anything anywhere in the world and start to chat with each other if their vehicles and lap times were similar enough and started to have some little competition and challenge each other. Could be smooth backflips sequentially done with a basher, oval laps in a parking lot, monster truck freestyle competitions based on community ratings.. Who knows, this could be like multiplayer online to R/C if we make it so!

Just think about it...

Virtual crawler comp, back yard tracks sort of thing...
I get it 😎

I downloaded the free app, LapTrax, into an old Droid phone to use with my mini Z, but haven't had a chance to use it yet. Still need to build a gantry to hold the phone for my diy track.
I believe my app is supposed to be able to differentiate between different colors, so multiple vehicles could be used to a small extent.

I haven't used it although I want to. Only have experience with the "pro" mylaps and liverc systems, and maybe soon the trackmate IR system.

My basement mini track is too small for consistent laps and it's more for bashing but I can always try it

I think we might have basically if not the same foam tiles! Great for mini tracks and pretty cheap if I recall correctly. Like the micro B! I wanted one but they didn't have any in stock of course. However, I will say I am super pleased with the outdoor capability of the Grom for another $40. Just a bit too big for driving in my house.

I totally recommend just timing some laps I'd love to see what kind of times you come up with and try to set up something similar here for my grom and maybe we could get sort of a little racing going on? What do you think? Best 10 laps, fastest time vs. average time? I can try to set up my track in such a way that I can't beat your fastest lap and we could just kinda go from there. I dunno, could be fun.
