Okay well I'm working on this boat for a guy and it has a really old K&B 3.5cc nitro engine on it. I'm kinda confused on how it works though. Like the carb is set open and the throttle is controlled by the exhaust. but theres no leads for a pressurized system going back to the tank. it has no muffler or anything either. Also it seems as if the engine has to turn clockwise to spin the prop the right direction and is that possible for a nitro engine. It's about 20-30 years old the guy said. It still has GREAT compression and the seals all seem good. Just don't really understand how it works. All help is greatly appreciated.

The cone on top is for starting it. It needs a 12V airplane starter with the silicone cup to spin it. Check out Great Planes for that.
It also looks like it has the old style free flight carb. Setting the knob sets it rich or lean, and determines how fast it goes. Fixed speed. The brass tube by the prop is the water pick up to cool the head.

I actually got it up and running today. I knew what the cone on top was for and that i needed a 12v starter for it. What i didn't know is it spins clockwise. The engine runs just a a real outboard engine does. The carb is set open but is like a vacuum with the piston and sleeve. You have to prime the engine then start it spinning clockwise! theres a thing on the exhaust that does allow for throttle and i have full control on how fast i want it to go. It's really kind of neat. Thanks for the help though rolex.

Here is some pic

The thing is older then dirt but its in good condition. I only have one last thing to do on it then its dona and ready to hit the waters.

Boats are like planes for me, really cool but I have no where to run them! I'd love to make a woody boat, much like the one that was never finished on this forum by one of the mod's...

It is really cool looking though. It's amazing how simplistic they appear compared to the land vehicles. I've never seen anyone use the actual screws that come with the servos before!

I would love to try to build a Criss Craft. No place to run it either.
Just end up like the planes I have started...
