Figured I would post this up here, y'all might enjoy it. I had been contemplating getting a boat after my trip back into RC several years ago. Was out of the hobby for close to 30 years, then the bug hit again, and now 18 crawlers and bashers later, figured I should get a boat  I've been a cabinet maker for 40 years, so naturally I wanted to build a wood kit. After some research (many YouTube vids), and a love for hydros and F1 Powerboats, I landed on a Zipp Kits G30.

I started it this past Fall, going slow with it, being very meticulous about the build. I must give credit to Sam Halstrom on YouTube for his thorough build and tips along the way.
*Be fore warned, a lot of pics coming..... I wont bore you with the play by play, but feel free to ask any questions.

This is a pic of Sam Halstroms G30

So the basic build complete, cowling fit, epoxy sealed, and a coat of 2K urathane primer. A few minor tweaks, and pre assembly of all the goodies. OS outboard lower, TP Power 2450kv motor, Hobbywing Seaking 160a ESC, Savox SW1213SG servo, carbon tube push push steering linkage, blah blah blah 🤣

Pe fit all complete, disassembly and final prep done, another coat of 2K primer, and final sand before paint. Back and forth with color scheme, and landed on the old school Gulf Oil racing livery. Everybody loves the Gulf livery! Sprayed the powder blue base coat in PPG OMNI, then a light coat of Vietec clear. Not super high end paint, but still probably overkill for an rc boat 🤣
Now just need to sand with 1K grit and figure out my masking and spray sequence for the orange and royal bule striping. After orange and blue, she'll get another final coats of clear.

Inspiration. Gonna do a number 20 on it in honor of Steve McQueen's 917 😉

Dude, toooo cool!
This hits so many things for me. My Dad used to take me down to our water ways as a child and watch these monsters race. I remember the sound, how fast they got up out of the water and of course the RC boats they had on display 😍

Buckled in for this one, sweet project!

Wow! Looks great, looking forward to finished boat. The outboard motor housing adds such a fun detail.
Most definitely the outboard housing adds a fantastic touch. I have been searching for one, but not finding a universal one that will work for this motor. TFL makes one for their lower and motor, but I've not had much luck finding one to fit my set up. I am sure there is something ou there, but may just have to fab up my own.

Back at the G30 build, took a break from it to fiddle with a couple crawler projects. Did a little wet sanding today of the clear coat, used 600 grit. Surface is nice and flat, and ready to start masking and laying down some orange and royal blue 😃
Still might be a few weeks though til paint is done, have a couple busy weeks ahead. Hoping to have it finished up though pretty soon.
This blue looks so flippin cool!
