Jumping back in with a Slash

I would reccomend a sealed diff and thicker oil instead, a spool will reduce your turning radius quite a bit. What is your current gearing setup?

I'm marginally certain it's the stock 23/86 setup. It was suggested I go to a 19t pinion. I'm open to suggestions.

My thought with the spool and the gearing change is that it might become more of a slidey car haha. I'm going to softer springs and ordering a sway bar set.

It transfers weight pretty nicely but could definitely use a little down travel.

The stock setup on a 2wd Slash is 19/86, the 23 tooth pinion is the "speed" setup that's only meant to be used in short runs. A smaller pinion and a sealed diff will help with powerslides, stock Traxxas diffs may as well have water for how light their grease is.

Stock brushed gearing is 16/90. Stock vxl gearing is 23/86. Unsure what Bl2s stock gearing is. But I run 23/86 for every surface and every driving of me and my motors rarely overheat. (To be fair they are HW motors so they are good stuff)

Ok good, thought I was going crazy for a minute because the manual said 23/86 and I pulled the gears and that's what they are. The Velineon is a 3500 kv and this is a "4370". The Surpass/GoolRC set was an experiment in what I can get out of $61. I'd say expectations have already been exceeded. I'm going to bump the braking to 100 then turn on the ABS feature on the FS receiver then turn the punch up to medium. If it doesn't rain I might strap my old phone with the GPS speedometer in it and see what it does. I think I might have an app that will track g force too.

Or maybe since I haven't felt like going to a skate park in a while and I always have the wife's Rustler as a backup I'll pull the motor/ESC out of the Vorteks and see what it does. I think it would require me to show some restraint, like maybe run it with the throttle curve backed off and punch on low haha.

I might pull the diff and put silicone paste in it and see how it works.

My 2WD Slash is geared 22-83 and no overheating issues. I run it mostly on 2S, and on even sufaces, ie street or smooth dirt (base-ball diamonds). It has SCT tires (4.3" tall).

All our rigs are based on EC5/IC5 connectors and set up to run 3S hardpacks to keep life simple. The current tires are 4.4 inches.

I need to get the gearing sorted because end goal is a pretty reliable parking lot/gravel basher I can throw a pack in and go rip.

Some Pics.

I wanted to be able to run it at dusk and be visible and had been thinking of trying the 19mm Angel Eye headlights so for $18 I decided to give them a try. These are branded from GOOLRC but I think there are several with identical pictures. I know they usually sell stuff that is in the Injora range of quality so worth the risk. I'm pretty impressed how bright they are running on receiver power which is what they are designed for. The main headlight also has a seizure strobe mode then the halos are multi color and have a couple of animations. They have no mounting provisions but are in a silicone sleeve. I reamed then dremeled the headlight openings to the point they basically friction fit then designed and printed a brace for inside the body that ties them together.

I only mounted one because I was test fitting but these little Injora tail lights are also made to run on receiver voltage and put out quite a bit of light. Also because they are receiver voltage both of these lights will work with the MyTrickRC light controllers too. For $11 retail I'm happy so far and designing a small bracket/sleeve type mount to put them on the lower bar.

That body looks GREAT in the blacklight! 😍
One of my other hobbies is custom diecast and diorama stuff and I take a lot of pictures. So I have an overabundance of lighting options in my hobby room. I grew up shooting with real film so I prefer to get a shot right with lighting and exposure time vs using photoshop and AI to "fix" photos. I do admit I've had some fun with using the generative fill in Photoshop to create backgrounds in some of my diorama shots.

Examples of changing lighting.

Your photos def show the difference a bit of light change will make.
I have done stage work. (Sound and lighting.) Its crazy just how much a color shift or angles make on a stage!!!
Building a "mini-stage" like your scene is far more intricate than anything I've ever made! The detail is very life-like and the lighting helps sell it as "real" certainly.

Awesome way to show lighting effects!!! 👍😍

Came home to the Amazon guy dropping off my pinion set so of course I immediately went to work. It's an Amazon 19-23t 48p set that came with more grub screws than pinions, a decent quality allen wrench that fits properly in the grub screw and allowed it to be properly torqued.

I modified the motor shim to allow more adjustment and it set up well. The included instructions for setting the mesh were pretty good too and in pretty clear english.

Took it for a test rip and it is a different animal. Quick and almost no cogging. Motor stayed very cool which in 45° and raining might not be surprising but it got too hot to hold your finger on it's first run in similar conditions.

Also got the prototype tail light mounts installed. All friction fit printed in white pla pro because it was on the printer. Couple of mild tweaks and they will be printed in petg.

Tires are holding up pretty well for $30. 4th pack through and I'm beating on them pretty hard. All on damp asphalt or pouring down rain asphalt but even in the rain if you load the front suspension and turn hard it will often catch traction and flip. I have a feeling they might be too grippy on dry pavement but we will see.
True directional and they are also left and right tread patterns. It's hard to tell in the picture but the center bar is offset to the inside on both the right and left side.

It's all just a part of my hobbies. Photography is the glue that binds all my hobbies together. It's the one thing I never step away from.

Wife got me this for Christmas. I build a lot of my own stuff but these G-Fans pieces are really nice for the money. Just need to make a couple of new decals in English haha.
