I put a new p/s into my FX21B5N Mod motor and I'm having one f***ing hell of a time getting this thing to turn over. I'm using two different starter boxes and wearing the battery out on both. One is an Ofna chrome top. This thing is beyond tight I'm tellin ya. I've been using a heat gun and can get the block temp up to around 260 or so and I can turn it over without a glow plug installed but as soon as I stick a plug in there more than 1-2 turns there's just too much compression. Plus with the plug only that far it's not deep enough into the button to light off the mixture. I thought my P5X was bad but I'm ready to chuck this thing off a wall. Any suggestions?

Yes give it to me....

LOL Have you tried to place some aro in her and try to turn her over?

Yeah....next time don't by an engine with so many damn letter and numbers in it! Cripes, you buy that thing from NASA or something?

Just an idea (and I'll grant you, a long shot) have you thought about using a different flywheel? I just switched the flywheel on my Hyper 7 from the stock to one of a MGT and it barely has to touch the starter wheel and it's turning over a new Hyper .21 8-port. I know it's no FX blah-blah-blah engine, but the SOB was tighter than a virgin prom queen when I got it.

Anyhow, just an idea! Is this going in the XB8 you couldn't get to run well when we raced at CRCRC?

Try putting a few drops of ARO down the cylinder head, leave the glowplug out, and let it turn over on the box for a good 5min... Then try it with the plug..

MW has a good idea I think...but use a larger flywheel...the older size diameter ones....that will give you more torque...it's not like you'll be jumping it off anything while breaking it in so the FW sticking out the bottom won't be that big a deal.....then just swap it back after the breakin is done....lapping might help....I'd just hate to see a mill like that need to be honed out w/ a drill press or relieved...seems like it would be a waste......

I did the ARO thing while cranking. Honing is a last resort. The frickin' combo for this thing goes for $180-190. I came across a deal on this one though, otherwise I was going to dump the case and go P5X for commonality. Yeah monkey, it's the same mill for the Xray. I was hoping it would have run at CRCRC just to get some time on it. Re-charging batts now so hopefully tomorrow I'll have something to work with, otherwise it's Truggy and Revo on saturday. Thanks though, I'll let you know how I make out. I'll have to dig through my stuff and see what flywheels I have, it's got a Sportwerks on it now.

Or maybe pop some head shimes in it to lower the comp.
That was a thought but infortunately I don't have any. LOL I'll be messing with it later on, though, I have a feeling that we'll be rained out tomorrow.

A few things to try...

You have a p5-x, just for shits and giggles take a shim out of that to get it started.

Connect your starter box directly to a car battery. All kinds of power there, just make sure you have enough juice to start the car when your done.

OkieDokie, I changed the flywheel and clutch to the stock setup and blamo, the Ofna chrome top will turn it over. I also ended up buying another Ofna chrome top since the other was for my LSP. It was easy to get by the wife since they are totally identical she never even noticed! Once the mill crankin' I also noticed it was turning the wrong way so I got that straightened out. Weather was for poop today so I'm letting all the batteries charge tonight and will give it a shot tomorrow since we're rained out. My buddy was at the track tonight and he said it's a no go for tomorrow, don't feel like making a 3 hour drive to Chicago so I'll have to wait not until after Vegas to do some racing! Thanks for the tips boys!
