Is it worth buying a 4-Tec 2.0 VXL or 3.0 in 2024 or look into something else?

Hi everyone, How's it going this morning? I've been looking at getting a 4-Tec 2.0 VXL or 3.0 in 2024 which will be the time when i buy one. I just want to know now before i make a confirmed decision and so i don't do something i'll later regret. FYI I had 4-Tec 2.0 Ford GT Blue edition before they were discontinued by Traxxas early this year then i traded it away to make room to get my Rlaarlo AK-917 which i bought one early this month. but realized it isn't a great durable street\parking lot basher and it had almost uncontrollable amounts of power on 2s with the system i put in it. So i'm now thinking about a 2.0 VXL or a 3.0 Brushed C8 Corvette and converting to brushless.

My other options besides a 4-Tec 2.0 VXL are.

Traxxas 4-Tec 3.0 C8 Corvette XL-5 Brushed, it's very slow out of the box so I'll have to convert to a VXL-3s brushless combo or try a different brushless esc and motor combo
to make it comparable to a 2.0 VXL but i don't get the same aftermarket body support as the 2.0.

Arrma Vendetta 3s BLX, A very fast capable car and capable of 60 mph on 3s with stock gearing and is proven to go 80mph with optional gearing is also starting to have more aftermarket body options available and parts really affordable and it's only slightly heavier than the 4-Tec platform the only problem is it's hard to find for sale new anywhere right now.

Arrma Infraction V3 3s BLX, Same platform as the vendetta but more geared for street\parking lot bashing but is proven to go over 65mph with included high speed gearing an right now is more available then the Vendetta.

I know there are other 1\10 scale 4WD touring cars available like the Tamiya's, the Kyosho's and the HPI RS4 Sport 3 but they don't have the same support that the Traxxas and Arrma does.
we got a few (used) 4tec 2.0's and from trying to run them, its a spec class at the track, with no real options to change, I'm on the fence about keeping the 4tec's or selling them and looking for something else next year, the boys i have a thread about issues i found which i should have caught, the other car and problems with lower screws pulling out, dogbones falling out, issues with the few slash's we have, I'm an old lost xx/xxx runner and this traxxas stuff seems like it hasnt changed much

I have a 4teck. problem is it's brushed. If you want fast, get an Infraction, or a Lim. 🏁 . You will be pleased with the results.😁 . Arrma baby. 😆.

They now sell brushless ones a 2s and a 3s you can also mod them to do 6s and go over 100+MPH like any on road car. It's not just an Arrma thing btw.

I think a 4tech, would be not only too light, but very hard to see. btw. I think the fastest out the box is a Traxxas. X01. The fastest from what I can tell is a Lim. After that its what you customize. 🏁 . I might be wrong in my thinking. 🤷‍♂️:ofnabuggy: .

I had an XO-1 and i'm now planning on getting the new version sometime next year since that project fell down a dark pit of constant failure. And i just want to start fresh with a new RTR rather than the mistake of a roller i bought over 2 years ago and tried to make work. Most of the new cars i plan to buy will be RTR unless they're factory rollers or kits i've found that you end up wasting money buying eBay rollers new unless they're used and cheap. And i can agree with what you said to be honest i've seen many people over the years do 100MPH speedrun builds based on 2wd Rustler and Slash\Rally 4x4 platforms and achieve impressive numbers back then.

A RTR V2 isn't going to help anything. It's a dated platform that's really just a Slash 4X4 with a new chassis. And TRX overprices it for what it is. An X0-1 is cool, but can't compete with a Arrma 6S.

I get what you're saying and i don't care if it can't compete i just like RC cars for what they are. There's still the possibility of rebuilding mine if i want and the XO-1 is kind of special for me since it was the car that started it all at least for me it was the first high speed on road car i bought.

Sounds like you know what you want. Go for it. 🏁 .

I'm still in the deciding and planning phase for what i want to do and it might be next year when i can purchase either the parts i need for my current one or buy the new one.

Good luck with it. 😁 .
Thanks for the kind words, I know it's weird to be in love with an old dated RC car but at least it's not a Tamiya TT-02 although i had seen some people do speedrun builds with TT-02's and almost 100mph before they would break or ram it into their foot at 85mph. If you're wondering the TT-02 speedrun thing it was by a guy called KaiserTestRC on youtube he got out of the game years ago.

Honestly, I dont realllly care what you do with your $$, but buying a car that you've already got just seems weird to me. If it were me Id try something I'd never had. Ever had a Tekno? 8TH buggy?
Never had one and if i could i would but i don't have an 8th scale off road track near me in my city but i have 2 1\8 tracks in my state one in Ardmore and one in Tulsa but i live in central OKC so it's too much of a drive for me and my dad.

Hey, build one anyways. Teknos are known as some of the best out there. And a 8TH buggy can be pretty much anything. Maybe build a Rally from a Typhon 6S?
I saw them but if i were to go 8th scale off road again i would probably go with a new Arrma Kraton 6s EXB V2 RTR i had a Traxxas Sledge (First release version) last year but traded it for a really rough condition X-Maxx that is now mostly restored. But honestly i'm focused on doing on road builds right now and i have a Felony, Vendetta, AK-917 Carbon and of course my old XO-1. Which with my XO-1 i'm trying to decide if it's worth rebuilding my old one or starting fresh with a new one. I also got my first new Spektrum radio this month a DX6C which took up most of my paycheck this month and next month going up to December i'll be trying to buy more receivers for it to replace all of my old Radiolink and Futaba ones.

Why waste money on a new one when you'll need to fix the old one anyways? The V2 is really just a V1 with a new body. But hey, if you want another XO-1 then go for it.
I get you and thanks for understanding my thing, I'm almost thinking about just repairing, rebuilding and upgrading my old one. My plan was to bring it up to V2 Specs but way better with new electronics like an MMX8s\1717 1,650kv combo, Spektrum radio with AVC (Have the radio just need the receiver), new Perfect Pass servo and other bits as well as a new body and tires i looked into the new Proline Toyo tires with the black chrome wheels. I can get started next spring and hopefully finish it by summer of next year.
