I recently traded a guy at work for this car and I know nothing about this platform. I dont see any 'in the wild', know anyone with one, or see many people talking about them. Are they lame? Anyone with personal experience?

The prior owner said he only drove it 2 or 3 times. He must have crashed all the times judging from the scratches in the front bumper. Other than that, doesn't show any wear. The light kit functions.

The snap on versions of various models are special release models for dealers, with only so many being made.

Other than the snap on body, its the same platform as the current 4tec 3.0.

If I were you, I'd shelve that body and get you another one to run it.

4Tec 3.0 is an interesting platform. It's a goofy size which means you can only run bodies for the 3.0 specifically. Since the 'Vette body is already worn (Worth nothing) I'd just run it with that. It's a decent TC platform, so a brushless kit should get you a pretty darn nice street runner.

I have one that I have powered up. Actually, this is the second one I have done. The first one I did was a regular Corvette one. I kept stripping out the spur gear, so I ordered a steel spur but sold the car before I ever put it in. The SnapOn car I bought new in the sealed box. First thing I did was put the VXL system in it along with the upgraded steel spur. It is wicked fast.
