In your opinion, what is better for starting your engine?

I've never had a start box.. but the roto start is great.. its not to big to carrie.. (wish they had a belt clip like the traxxas easy start does) but you can't beat a pull start for "feeling" what the motor is doing when trying to start one that doesn't want to start..

would a roto start work on my engine? If so, how much are they?

so it is pretty much stay with the pull start, or pay $100 for a starter box? and savage, please go on aim.

Why is it impossible to start with a pull start? That's a small engine. Should be a couple pulls and running. Is it hard to pull or hard to start? Two different problems.

Hard to start probably means it isn't primed properly, the tune is completely out of wack, glow plug is shot or the glow heater battery is almost dead.

Hard to pull, it's new, lots of compression, lots of pinch in the sleeve or it's flooded. For compression/pinch problems, try loosening the glow plug 1/4 turn to start, then tighten it back up once it's running. Also, you could try heating the engine up with a hair drier. If it's flooded, stop pulling. Remove the plug, turn it upside down, rip the cord a few times to get the fuel out of the engine. Start over.

Pull start. Less batteries to deal with, less stuff to maintain and less stuff to lug around to bash sites.

A big 12V NEVER dies. For me atleast..

I havnt charged mine for months and months and it still runs strong.

I use THIS

its rechargable.

Another thing you can do if your a basher is simply cut off the molex connectors that go to the batterys and use jump start chables to your car.

Starterbox for me.

it is hard to pull. I have loosened the glow plug, and it is easier to pull, but it still doesn't pull through.

Heat it up with a hairdryer so it makes it a bit easier to pull.

but I am breaking in the engine, wont that heat wear down the piston/sleeve?

When your breaking in the engine, temps should be around 195-200F.

Heating it with a hair dryer before you start it makes pulling the pull start easier.

It wont hurt the engine.

Just make sure not to heat it over 210F.

ok, .. well I got it started without heating it, but it wont stay up. It will last for like 3 seconds and then it dies, ... i noticed that it is flooded. How can i prevent it from flooding so fast? Thanks

ok, ... well i was noticing that it was getting flooded really quick (i would tip upside down and drain out) Could this be becuase I am running it to rich on the LSN? It is more out than flush... Thanks

oooooo, i get it. What about having the LSN flush? Is that a good starting point?

Turn it CLOCKWISE 3 hours.

It should stay on then. If it doesn't, keep leaning out an hour at a time.

Keep watching the temp as you do this.

Keep it around 195-205.

Leaning it out will prevent it from flooding but as you lean it, it will raise the temp..

If you lean it out to much, it may get to hot.

Also, DONT touch the LSN needle at all.

Most engines can be tuned using the stock lsn settings....

All of mine are pull starts, except for the gal's s-maxx. All of mine start on the first pull. My cars involve: prime, ignitor, one pull and it's going.

I've never had problems with a pull start, but i have had problems out of the O.S. CV-X not running worth a crap. I've dealt with three and they were all poop.

FYI: the only difference between a cv and a cvx is pullstart gear. (crankshaft, pull start, backplate, and one-way bearing.
