Hello, I am new to racing, and I am wondering what importance speed has in a racing truck. I am looking at the slash with the TQi radio package, and see that it will only go about 30. Would this be sufficient, or should I go with the 60 mph range?

What are you doing with it? If you are racing, you want bottom end acceleration and traction. Bashing, then it doesn't really matter. Just keep in mind, the faster it goes, the more it breaks.

Where would I find the acceleration rate?

You wouldn't. That's just a matter of playing with gearing. With the right setup, good tires, and a tacky surface you should be able to lift the front end. The Slash is a common race truck, and will be competitive out of the box. You can adjust gearing and change your setups according to the track and other racers, as well as your driving style.

If you want to race you are gonna wanna pick up a race quality kit. Unless your racing in some slash only class. A slash is not going to compete very well against the higher end racing rigs out there. If you just want to bash it around then it doesn't matter.

As for your question the importance of top speed mostly depends on the size of your tracks straight away. if you have a large track with a large straight away your gonna be a little more concerned with having some extra top end on your truck than if your track is small but 30MPH is fast on a track....you'll never get a kit up to 60MPH on a track....if if you could hit that speed youd also hit the wall or bumper :) Like alien was saying Id first concentrate on your acceleration coming out of the corners and then worry about your top speed on the straights.

And what gears are used more for acceleration? The ones used to go fast?

Have you raced before? If not, I'd seriously get some wheel time in before going for speed. Talk to the racers where you plan on racing, get ideas from them. Most racers would rather help you go faster than have you in their way.

Then I wouldn't worry about being the fastest, it'll cause you more pain. If your track has a stock Slash class, run that until you get used to it. After that, worry about tuning, speed, etc.

Since you are new to racing I will also suggest focusing on your driving and tuning ability before getting caught up in the chase for the "fastest" gear. I race onroad but the concept is the same. If you tackle racing with the proper mindset you WILL know when you are ready yo step up to better equipment and whatnot. Your best concern with gearing is to get it in the ballpark so you're not overheating your motor and in the same range sd your fellow racers. Eventually you'll begin to understand more affects of gear changes.

i have to agree with all the guys here. i race dirt oval, but the same applies. before you get too into gearing and setup, just remember: your fastest lap, is the one you don't make a mistake on. it dousnt matter how fast your truck is if you can't keep it off the barriers
