I had the top third of a big, dead white pine at the edge of the back yard come down in a thunderstorm. It was an old tree that had branched into three trunks in that top third. This phenomena is caused by an insect that bores into the top of the pine tree when it's just a sapling. It usually results in a double trunk on the top half or third, but this one was a triple.

That part of the yard drops off pretty steeply to the woods so, instead of cutting it up, I got out the four-wheeler and used the winch, a tow strap and a tree strap to drag the pieces off the yard. They were some big pieces and it was all the poor machine could handle. A lot of it is still showing and looks pretty messy so I'll have to re-do some of it another day.

Another very productive day, today! First was the car's oil change. When I got home I had decided to replace the grill parts with the new parts kit. Everything went along easily enough except for one igniter that had to be plugged in, in a very constraint space. I would have to essentially taking apart nearly the entire grill to get clear access, and I had no intentions of doing that. It took a lengthy amount of time, but I prevailed! The center of the grease tray crumbled through once I took it out to access the burners. So, another $33 to Amazon for a replacement grease tray. Should be here tomorrow. Another challenge came when the thermometer bolts were so corroded that I had to take a cut-off wheel to them.
After a walk through the yard pulling dandelions, the rest of the day was starting my gardening project. I hand mixed all the potting soil used. I was fairly pooped by the time I cleaned up and put everything away.

Looks like this: tall, straight and a bit fragile. You can see one with the double top section on the middle right of the photo. The one in my yard had a triple top section. The multiple trunk sections don't branch away from each other; they stay tight and parallel.

I used to do 75% water changes, twice a week, to all my tanks. I had a pretty good water changing system in place, so it wasn't tedious to do.

So it is similar to our scrub pines. They get brittle and alot of the braches randomly fall. Hurricanes usually bend, curve, or snap them.

This was my 180gal central American cichlid tank. All those fish pictured are over 12" long.

Boy the aquariums bring back memories..
When I was a kid my step dad was into salt water stuff. Read: $$$!
Twin 180s in the living room, twin 40s in the entryway, 75 in my room, 20 in their room, 50 in the office. In the basement there were 6 20s. 3 to raise guppies to feed the carnivorous stuff and 3 maintained for quarantine if any fish got sick. Also a central aerator pump plumbed to all tanks.
Constant work but oh so cool!

Some of the Malawi cichlids I had... They did very well and I had them breeding. They are mouth breeders and the process is pretty interesting!
