Okay what is the best kit / out of the box buggy??? I am adding this to my collection and no nothing. Since I sold my SNR I have a Picco .26 Force just laying around and was told these can fit in this babies... thanks guys. I am mainly looking something w/o a radio cause I already have a JR XS3..

TRD - its really gonna come down to what your budget is.

give me an idea and i will give some recommendations

200-400?

400-600?

600-800?

like a 1/8th... good one kit wise no more than $600... and some names so i can do some comparison..

dude you missed:

800-1000

1000-1200

1200-1400

1400-1600

buggies can get real expensive. but to me it was worth every penny.

i was referring to just the kit and some extras. he already has a radio and engine.

as for the kits - in that range, i would recommend either the Kyosho MP 7.5, or the GS Storm Pro. The Thundertiger EB-4 Pro is also a great buggy, hell - even Richard Saxton Races it, but u have to be careful about parts availability here in the states.

Both the Kyosho and the GS are about 450-480 for the kit, and your gonna need a pipe too, which is going to be about 40-80. Figure another 100.00 for servos and u are right about 600-700.

i own both the Storm pro, and the EB-4, personally - i like the EB-4 better, but am nervouse about the lack of LHS parts support.

If you do go for one of the 400-600 range kits stay away from anything with the name "Sports" in the name. These versions just do NOT have the durability, strength, and quality of parts that the true kits have.

My opinion, go for the Inferno MP 7.5. It can be upgraded to full on Kanai II status for a few hundred more once youve gotten into the swing of things.

The EB4, as NitroAddict pointed out, is another real contender but isnt very widely known/supported here in the states. It has a strong following but not a HUGE one.

One of the up and commers (from what I've read---I have not seen one in action) is the Hot Bodies Lightning Pro. I think its called the Sacker in other parts of the world. Seems to have some quality parts and some of the member here can testify to its durability. Its on the lower end of the price scale in an RTR format but for the price it can be easily upgraded to a better engine, pipe, servos, radio etc for about the same price you would end up paying for one of the previously mentioned kits.

Of course there is always the Mugen MBX5. But now your talking closer to the $1000 mark by the time your done.

I would rank them as follows:

1-MBX5
2-Inferno 7.5 Kanai II
3-Inferno 7.5
3-Storm
3-EB4
4-Lightning pro
5-Anything Ofna

you have an xs3 so the stock mg racing servo (75oz) will make a great throttle / break servo, but you'll need a nice steering servo ($80-$100 or so) you'll also need a pipe if you don't have one ($40-$100 depending on what you want)

I'd go with the Storm Pro. As much as I hate to stick my nose in Humboldt's brown hole, for the price range, the Storm Pro is much more durable than the straight MP 7.5. The Kanai's and the mbx5 are the obvious sweet choices, but they extend out of your price range.

I think FastEddy picked up his Storm Pro for under $400. That gives you a little over $200 for steering servo and pipe if needed.

Well I think I decided on the the Kyosho Inferno 7.5 Kanai or Kanai II... Well the JR XS3 I already have controlling my Savage and RS4 3ss.. so it looks like I am going to buy some servos for that. I am just compare if I should get the ready Sports ready and hop it up or the Kanai II kit that already has the hop ups... what do you guys think??? I found a Sports ready on ebay brand new NIB for $436.00 w/ $10.00 shipping??

TRD - the sports and the kanai are not the same car, therfore many parts are not interchangable. u can't upgrade a sports to a kanai. i would STRONGLY recommend that if the kyosho is the buggy u want, th get the 7.5 KIT this is what the kanai is without all the upgrades. will set u back about 460.00

those are both thre ready to run versions - although several people here have them - i would recommend against it. You would be better off with this version if u want a kyosho:

http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXUX44&P=0

The version u showed me is NOT compatible with the kanai upgrades, even though the ebay seller says it is. The kit on ebay doesn't even have a metal spur gear.
======================================
Here are the differerences between the two:

STANDARD MP-7.5
1) Requires engine and tuned pipe/header

10) Includes set screw lockable tuned pipe mounting wire
11) Longer center rear dogbone joint

engine mounts
17) Smaller rotational mass flywheel
18) Chassis machined for buggy
layout only
19) White wheels and rear wing
20) Gold aluminum parts such as
shock towers, servo plate, etc.
21) Ball bearing clutch

MP-7.5 Sports
*****************
1) Includes GS21R engine and
tuned pipe with manifold
2) Uses standard aluminum shocks

holy moly, NA is going crazy over there. that's a lot of info.

YOU DO NOT WANT THE SPORTS! The chassis is completely different from the normal MP 7.5. For this reason you can not upgrage from a Sports to a normal MP 7.5.

I'm going to stick my head out here. I bought the Lightning Pro for $340 shipped. The PRO version of the Lightning has a chassis exceeds the quality of any other buggy that comes with an engine.

There are some down sides. The engine is rather slow but if you buy a kit you need need to buy an engine anyway. The stocker gets you by until you can afford a new mill. When you do buy a new mill, you'll need to replace the diff gears because they are lightweight and tend to blow. Some of the other stock parts suck, but they too will get you by until you can afford better parts.

For $340 the Lightning Pro (not the RR version) is pretty good and can be built up over time. It needs a radio though.

Anyway I'll shut up now, I've said this too many times in the past. :)

I Strongly AGREE with everyone saying to STAY AWAY from the 7.5 Inferno SPORTS rtr. I go one further and say stay away from ANYTHING with the word SPORT in the name. The SPORT version of just about every RC related product is the cheaper version of the good stuff. In my opinion and in my experience there is no substitute for the real thing. Save up a lil more and get the MP 7.5 or the Kanai or Kanai II.

I own an Inferno Sports. I know first hand the problems that arise when upgrading. If you were to buy one and try to upgrade it to all Kanai parts you will have replaced just about every part of the buggy before you are done.

As a side note....One of the comments I DISAGREE with is people saying you cannot upgrade the SPORTS to the KANAI it or that the parts are not compatible. THIS IS SIMPLY NOT TRUE. Any 7.5 can be upgraded to a Kanai with enough Time and Money.

Sorry NA

Sorry NA

lemmi rephrase that then - the sports model is not the same buggy as the kanai. different chassis, everything. u would spend far more than the actual cost of a kanaii, to upgrade a sports.

the same is true for the Storm RTR -> Storm Pro. The Storm RTR, however, seems a little better than the Sports. I think it has a metal spur gear anyway.

it does RobH - although the Storm RTR is in a different league. U get alot more than most RTR's - but its alot more expensive too.,

I won't bash the Storm RTR. It's a pretty good buggy and the "low budget" buggy recommended by my LHS up until the release of the Lightning Pro.

OK OK OK, I'll shut up now. ;)

How about the Ultra MBX Pro???? I actually found one on E-bay brand new in a box from a R/C Store for $275... total with shipping is $295.00 ... TowerHobbies has it for $349.. and my LHS has it for $379.99... So I might get this one....
