  1. Bashing
  2. Racing
just a few quick beginner questions.

1) how hard is it to remove factory glued tires off of the wheel? Fairly simple, or does it usually require a bunch of clean-up/debri removal?

2) thinking of getting 2 sets of new tires. One set for racing on an outdoor clay track, the other set for daily pavement bashing. These are the 2 sets I'm thinking of getting:

Pro-Line Hole Shot 2.2" M3 Truck Tires for the outdoor clay track

Pro-Line Road Rage II 2.2" Truck Tires

3) Lastly, I been searching supply sites for parts. Does anyone know of a site with a GOOD selection of parts that wont charge outrageous fees? For example, I was browsing www.amainhobbies.com and find them pretty decent. But being a beginner, I could be wrong.

Thank in advance :)

Amain is one of the better sites out there, also try towerhobbies and killer hobbies. I haven't used those tires but proline is a great brand.

Removing tyres isnt hard but messy and a little time consuming. You'll need some De-bonder and a good hobby knife, (which you should have anyway)

Removing tires from rims sucks! There is a product called CA Debonder for tire removal, it helps but in the end it takes a lot patience and hard work. Boiling the wheels for and tires for 30 minutes is the most effective way I have found. Once you get them off you have to clean all the dried glue......as cheap as 2.2 wheels are, I'd just buy new.
E-Bay is the best place for wheel/tire deals.
Amain is a good place to buy from. I have heard nothing but good about them.
I stick with towerhobbies just because they have never failed me. I'll pay a bit more for peace of mind.
Your tire choices should be great, I have never owned a set of Proline tires I did not like.

good hobby knife, yup got that, De-bonder I'll need to get. I wouldn't worry to much about removing the original tires but I can't exactly afford 2 full sets of tires plus 2 full sets of wheels. Plus, at this rate, another day or 2 and I wont have to worry about a complete tire removal anyhow. The stock tires that came on it are so bald and thin right now I'll only have to remove the glued beads, LOL.

Thanks, I been re-searching my butt off and so far the Prolnes have had nothing but excellent reviews. I'll be ordering the street tires on monday. I'll let you know how they work out. As for the tire removal, I may just buy a few full sets of stock wheels for spares and go from there.

I'm with scrogg. I tend to just buy new ones, cause glueing is easy, but unglueing, yuk.
If you do a search on removing tyres there is a million opinions on the best, (easiest) method.

I have been running Proline tires for years and they are great, here is a link to prolines 2.2 tires, http://www.pro-lineracing.com/c-34-tires.aspx you might also consider some dirt works or dirt hawgs for bashing because they give the versatilty to go on and off road.. and bow ties are a good track tire as well...also what are you running them on?

in the long run, u might want to try beadlock wheels. this way all you have to do is remove a few screws and install the new tires. no more glue, no more mess. the wheels are kinda pricey, but in the long run should be cheaper. search for maximizer or axial. i believe they should have the size you need.

i have de-glued tires and rims. i always boil them for bout 15-20 min. I've done it a few times. your fingers are a little sore from all that pulling but it works fine as long as you clean up the rims.. i use tower as well. the prices are just fine for nitro but a little high for my baja 5b for some reason. the shipping is resonable and they alway have every thing i need.

I'm running a GT2 at the moment.

$32.50 for the Axial 2.2 8 Hole Rock Crawler Beadlocks (Black Chrome), not too bad at all. and that's with the shipping.

You may not want a beadlock for racing, as balancing the wheel can be a PAIN. And are they heavier? Every little thing is can affect a light ST.
The Holeshots were the hot tires on my outdoor track. Usually the best way to go is to go to the track and see what people are running. But the Holeshot is usuall THE tire for a outdoor clay track.

Thanks for the info, I didnt consider the extra weight of the beadlocks. I might be getting a tad to anxious for the racing scene considering i dont have much in the department of extra parts just yet anyhow. But all the info that everyone has given me so far here has been wonderful. Thanks again everyone!

For typical off road bashing, I have found that losi's step pins are great tires for 2.2 2wd trucks. They are a bit soft, so take care to not run them on concrete.

I run a jato and I ran 2.2 rims for quite a while. The gladiator tires were horrible for off road. They looked good, but didn't get traction on much of anything. A more agressive tread like the step-pin, dirt paw or trac-ta-gator would work well on many off road bashing situations.

The road rage are pretty good tires, but they have a tendency to induce a lot of wheel spin as well. They wear really well, but the roll out on them almost requires a +1-2 tooth jump on the CB to get the same speed as off road tires due to their low profile.

I now run 1/8 buggy tires/wheels on my jato. New era makes an adapter/hub. I really like it. I run badlands on the rear for off road and road rage all around for skate park bashing. Unlike 2.2 street tires, the roll out on buggy tires/wheels doesn't change as much going from road rage to off-road tires. Granted, I don't get enough traction now to pull a wheelie in the grass, but I feel it's much more controllable. Again, it's that jato and I have a 18TM in it, so it's a bit overpowered. ;)

I bash only. No racing for me.

I just saw your in york, where are you going to be racing?

Staub Brothers in Gettysburg. If all goes well and I get all the parts I just ordered, I'm going up there on friday for the day to do some practice running. Keeping my fingers crossed :)
