Well, I got a new Slash for winning a contest the other day. I'm so stoked, I've never won anything that was worth crap......EVER. All I've done so far is trim the front fenders for more tire clearance, and tear it down clean the crap they put in the diffs out, and replace it with some Mugen 5000 weight diff oil. I also added 4mm of preload to the rear shocks to get the A arms level under sag. I haven't really had a chance to bash on it yet, but it's coming though. Thanks to everyone over at AMX for making the contest possible.

Thanks, and I have not Marauder, any reccomendations? I don't have any tracks nearby anymore, so it'll mostly be a play / bash rig with possibly an occasional drive to a track.
 
For the stock setup, if you stick with the 2-hole pistons that come stock, I suggest 50wt up front with 3mm preload spacer, 40wt in the rear with a 4mm preload spacer. I ran this at my track and it handled big doubles very well.

I'm now running single hole pistons, with 45wt up front 3mm preload spacer, 35wt in the rear 4mm preload spacer. This setup is a lot stiffer, but handles so well. It's also less prone to body roll and in turn will keep you from rolling over so much on pavement.

If you're running onroad, set the lower shock positions to the far outside all around, if you're running offroad or jumping a lot don't set the rears so far out or you will bend the shafts with a hard landing on the back tires.
 
Nice setup tips, thanks Marauder. Looks like I'll be diggin through all my old stash of shock oils tonight. And probably headed over to the LHS this weekend just to see what they have laying around.
 
If they have the aluminum shock caps get some. That combined with proper oil level in the shocks will help prevent blow outs. You can get two sets of them for around $14.00 or so. The stock shocks aren't a bad option if you use the right oils.

Other than that, if you haven't already ran it, break in the motor using the water technique. I wasn't a believer until now. Also lube the bushings before each run. I know it's just a $23 motor, but you can get a lot of runs out of them when taken care of properly.

Only other part you might want to have handy are RPM rear hub carriers. Those stock carriers snap with the slightest impact, the RPM are reinforced and so far mine have taken a lot of abuse with no signs of wear or damage.
 
I did already break the motor in, but not with the water / alcohol method. Just drove it around on a firends paved driveway easy, no quick stabs of throttle. Then brought it home and blew it out, and oiled the bushings. I'll look into the shock caps and hub carriers while I'm there. Quick ?? If you do a drop test with your truck, when it rebounds do the A arms sit level? I like a bit of sag in my trucks, they seem to handle better riding a little lower with some droop in the suspension.
 
That thing is pretty sweet ! There is a fella running a slayer on the track at my house,I like the way those trucks look......from what I have seen with his slayer they are tuff as nails !!!

Thanks JC. I think it's my favorite RC, and probably will be for a while. We beat on it HARD last weekend and never broke anything.
