I have a question as the summer is around the corner i though i would get back into the nitro hobby again so got my cen fun factor out and gave her a really good clean, brought brand new batteries for her, filled her up put the glow plug in (charged) and it started. So of it went slowly first then after a few mintes i opened her up and it didnt like it. It was like the cogs had shredded and the engine cog was just spinning, so making alot og moise but not going anywhere. So went to expect the problem the cogs werent shredded but the drive shaft wasn't turning and neither were the dogbones on the wheels.

Can anyone help me out?

Thankyou so much in advance.

I'm not familiar with cen anything... Is it a ST or MT? Rear trans, center diff? If your cb/spur are still spinning and the axles going to the tires aren't, it's obviously something inbetween. Either your trans or a diff fried on you.

Its not a MT its like a rally car, but when i push it and make it idle it will catch again and then will go untill it hits a speed and it will dis-engage again somewhere, would that say there something lose?

check the set screws that holds the center dogbones to the tranny and diff they might have fell off

I am pretty sure it's your thrust beairng in the transmision. It has probably gone kaput! I had the same problem with a previous car last year. Rev rev rev but no movement. Changed the thrust bearing in the transmision and all was fixed.

I am abit of a newbie when it comes to this can you explain, thanks

It's what your spur gear is attached to. There is a thrust bearing in there (only applies power in one direction). Pull out your manual. All the info with p/n's are in there. I don't have a Cen so I can't be more specific.

is this right, ok hold with me there is a hole on the 2 spped cog not the motor cog but the red one in the picture. Here look at the picture, there aint nothing in this hole either.

P.S. on the left of the 2 red cogs.

So what are you asking?

If I were you, I'd take that whole 2 speed assembly out and rip it apart. It should be done at least 2 times per season since oil and grit can get in there and make quick work of it.

Change the thrust bearing inside and set the 2 speed to stock for the shift points. I can't be any more specific since i don't have that car. I don't know what the stock settings are and/or the pn's. You're going to have to look for the manual on-line. And nope, i don't have the URL for it. Best bet would be to google it.

BTW, those holes you're referring to are where you stick your allen wrench in to adjust shift points.

I feel like such a noob so just take the 2 speed off, the red cogs and then what split them apart? ok i will take it off and take picture. sounds like the best idea.

But do you mind? like i have been asking so much and you sound a little angrey.

Sorry Dudes

nah, no anger here. if I was, I'd let you know. just take your time when taking it apart. I'd still search for the manual online just in case.

Martdaman; your best bet is to contact CEN and request an owners manual... Might put you back a few dollars/pounds, but then you'll have a good exploded view of it.

Next, get yourself a good phillips driver, an assortment of hex drivers (metric, of course), and some pliers.. These are all standard fix-it supplies... Shop around, you can probably find all these for about the cost of a case of beer.

Now, re-reading the initial post; fire the car back up and watch the flywheel (it's the round disc on the back side of the gears on the engine). Does it rotate when the engine is running? It should. If not, you have a loose flywheel.

Right I will fire it up in a minute, just one quick question the flywheel is the bit that turns when you pull the pull start?

The flywheel is the little silver disc behind the gears on the front of the engine... It has some grooves on it, and is about a coins' thickness.

When you fire the car up, place it against your foot, and give it GENTLE throttle... just a very light blip, enough to raise the rpms a hair. Observe the drivetrain, and see if the 2speed moves. I suspect it won't. But, ya never know.

Here is a picture of the flywheel; the red arrow is the one that you want to pay attention to.

heartbreak done that and nothing moves its all connected its when i open it fully up it will accelerate and then will just rev the nuts of it and the drivetrain, dog bones wont move but the spur gears will move and the engine gears will move, and i can rev it full wack all will happen it the spur gear will spin faster. The way to get it to connect to the drivetrain is to turn the engine off and when the spur gear stops you can see it connect cause it moves alittle. I dont get it, should I still take the spur gears of?

Hmmmm, you've put forth a bit of a poser there... Lets' see, the flywheel isn't loose... Sounds like a loose set screw on the center drive shaft. Did the center drive shaft (runs right next to the engine) rotate when you gave it a little throttle?
