hey guys ,

i just wanted to know how to stop your flywheel properly without hurting your fingers???? i always seem to burn/hurt them trying to stop it in the end i just plug the exhuaust..

does this do any damge to the engine plugging the exhaust stinger beacuse thought it would anyway just my :2cents:

thanks for anyinput nf123:) :)

Well, you risk popping a glow plug, due to the sudden pressure change in the system (I know, I know, it sounds like I'm talkin out of the hind end, but it's true, at least in my experience).

About the best thing you can do is just man-up and give it a quick and full contact thumb to the flywheel. The only way it hurts is if you let your finger drag on the flywheel.

If you still don't like using the flywheel contact method, there are stoppers made by Dubro (I think it is) that are made for it. It's simply a little cone-on-a-stick that fits all exhaust stingers.

I have used my thumb when it is at a low idle and it stops fine. If you have a high idle I wouldno't do it. You can also use the tip of your shoe.

I have been known to wrap my thumb with a towel and stop the flywheel like that.

I personally don;t like plugging the stinger since you shove fuel in there fast and risk damaging the engine.IMO

Go to the hardware store. Pick up a 1/2 inch wooden dowel. Cut it to length (about 6 inches) and keep it in your back pocket. Use that to stop the engine. You can also use the handle of a paintbrush.

sac up and stick your thumb in there....HB said it, if you do it quick it don't hurt....well at idle speeds....I must be a friggin moron for not thinking of Diver's suggestion....LOL....I've had a few rev ups from forgetting to reconnect my linkage after replacing CB bearings at the track.....thanks diver

Why not just pinch the fuel line? Beats getting your fingers torn up! If the fuel line is hard to get to, use a pair of needle nosed pliers.

Always works for me, at least. Good luck!

NP Plaid. It's also a helpful thing to have in your pocket when marshalling at the track. If a car takes a hit and it knocks something loose and there's a runaway due to mechanical issues, it's easier to shove the stick in there than the heel of your shoe.

I've always thought this was the best way to stop a motor. This whole flywheel deal is news to me :ponder2: Anyways, I'm to lazy to pinch, I just plug the stinger...thats probaly why I'm having so much hell with my Revo now days lol

ok nice one mw

wont that stave or flood the engine ?????

Do you not understand what "flooding" an engine means?

It means to allow it to have much more fuel to air ratio than it could ever ignite as most or all of the oxygen required for combustion has been replaced/displaced.

If you cut the fuel supply as mentioned, you'd "lean" the engine,,NOT flood.

Jeep

hence why he meant to type starve, not stave. starve, lean, same same i guess.

Nitro, yes pinching with lean the engine and "could" cause it to run for a brief second with less than optimal lubrication. But only for a second. Plugging the exhaust will cause it to slightly flood and have a build up of gasses in the combustion chamber greatly increasing your chanses to blow a plug but again, only for a brief second.

Stopping the flywheel is prolly the best method Especially for HighDollar racing engines.
