One of my hobbies (outside of RC) is Grilling/smoking any kind of animal flesh. My go to is a Kamado (a rebranded Green Egg) but I was recently introduced to this piece of kit: https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/p...1dAUwv9hwvsJ9YJX1EJq5kcW2PWh5boxoCz2cQAvD_BwE

Bottom line, this thing is freakin' amazing. I have always wanted to deep fry a turkey but was turned off by the prospect of burning down my house. I have to admit that I had low expectations when I first used this but it is an amazing alternative.
I already cooked a whole chicken and a 15lb turkey in it and damn...

Anyway, what is your "go to" method for your Thanksgiving turkey? Responses such as, "letting my wife throw it in the oven" are not acceptable!

Glad you found a way to prepare it that you like. My son fries Turkey. He uses an injector to season the meat first, but...

Turkey is not a favorite of ours. If we have it, we prefer smoked to fried or baked.

Our two younger (married) sons are obligated to feast with their in-laws this year. (the poor bastards :woot: )

This year it's just my oldest son (single) joining the wife and I, so we are having home-made Bul-goki instead. :celebrate:

Oh yeah Bul-goki, love me some Korean!

Wife and I were slated to stay with the in-laws this year but the drive to Dallas with 2 dogs in the car was something I just couldn't handle right now.
As an alternative, the better half, dogs and I are hunkering down in the West Virginia mountains right now. The piece and quiet is absolutely amazing - I could permanently live like this. Oh yeah, I did pack the fryer in the back of my truck but I need to procure a propane tank somewhere in the local town.

Sounds like a great way to spend the holiday... I spent three years (one at a time) in S. Korea and the wife came for a month-long visit on my last trip. We learned to cook a few dishes from some of the locals I got to know. Good times.

Thanksgiving is all done by the wife's side of the family. I don't get a say. Which is fine with me because they're all good cooks!
This past summer, we were over our friends' friends lake house. The husband tried his hand smoking a turkey. It was fantastic! Best turkey I've ever eaten!

We are not big turkey fans except in sandwiches. This year we will probably put a pork roast in the crock pot, if we can release Mrs. Doom from her current hostage situation.

We cook turkey once or twice a year max. I don't go out of my way to eat the meat, but I do like the flavor if done right.

I'm a huge fan of pig. Some delicious smoked pork shoulder is my fav.

Brined with apple juice and maple syrup (plus salt, and a few other secret ingredients 😁) for 12 hours, then smoked with maple wood.
Samples or it didn't happen!
🤪

I'm used to it being dry like a 70 year old nun. I'm thinking sloppy Joe's this thanks giving. 😋
🧐 How, exactly, do you know how dry a 70.... wait, nope, never mind.

:woot:
