Hi guys please help!!!

I recently just bought a kyosho mp777 sp1 already built with an os Max vz-b engine all i had to do was buy rx equipment and some fuel and apparently it should have been ready to roll (just to let you know I'm pretty much a novice with nitro's)!!!.
The engine is brand new so todays task was to run it in, follownig the os instructions... I'm at the point now where i should be running it in on the ground yet i have a problem with the clutch slipping, could somebody please help and advise me on how to adjust the clutch? whether or not i need to take the engine out to do this?

regards

nigel

Did you install the springs correctly?

Post a pic with the clutch bell off...

How do you know it's slipping? Are you sure your flywheel isn't slipping? Since your new to this, it may take more explanation and time, but the vz-b is supposed to be a screamer of an engine, so getting the power down to the ground may prove to be a problem. Although, since your in the midst of break-in, I can't imagine it's uncontrollable just yet.

There really isn't a way to "adjust" a typical clutch. If you have one of the more expensive werks/collari clutches that use a nut with a tension spring, then you just turn the nut. But If it's a typical 3 shoe clutch, you need softer clutch springs to allow it to engage better. Or, at the very least, you should use a scotch brite (or mild sandpaper) to clean out the interior surface of the bell and the contact point on the shoes.

Thanks for your reply's, to be honest i just assumed it would be the clutch slipping!!! I didn't build this buggy so I'm not sure that the clutch springs are installed correctly. I will try to explain what is happening, basically when i try and run the buggy on the ground and give it some throttle it hardly moves or doesn't move at all at times... there is no real drive i'm not sure that there is much left to explain with my lack of knowledge and experience...

If you hold the have the brakes on, will it roll easily? If you have the brake on and lift the rear while pushing it (front tires on the ground only), will it roll easily? If you have the brake on and lift the front and drag it (rear tires on the ground only), will it roll easily?

This will tell you if you have a axle/cvd cup problem somwhere. If it will roll easily with any of the above, it's a drive train problem.

If the above proves to be ok, start the buggy and hold it down with the body off. Press on it pretty hard so it can't move. Give it some gas. See if you can see anything moving in the drivetrain. Watch the spur, see if it spins. Watch the flywheel, see if it spins or stops spinning. This will help you pinpoint whether it's something in the drvietrain or the clutch shoes slipping or the flywheel slipping. In any case, it should help you figure out where you need to give it some attention.
