Hey all. I'm stumped, my HOTA charger has been working great. Then I lost power briefly, which shut off my HOTA as it was plugged in. Since then I can't get my LipO to charge. It wants to default to LiHv to charge, in which I switch it back to LiPo. When I try to do anything, I get this battery type wrong error.

I've looked through the manual, which is pretty basic and really doesn't help. I've done a factory reset and tried again. Same error.

Only other thing I'm wondering if if my LiPo is toast? You can't hardly tell in the second picture, but if feels bowed out ever so slightly. I'm trying to remember is the battery was always like this or if I'm just being overly sensitive since it's not working now.

I haven't used the battery in a bit. I have balance charged and storage charged it a couple times when I thought I'd get my rally car out. But didn't.

Any other insight is appreciated. Thanks!

What’s the individual cell voltages?

3.7v IIRC
Strange… Was just thinking if they’d dropped to WELL below storage voltage weird stuff like that could be possible (unlikely, but possible).. I’d send Hota an email. Probably wouldn’t mention the outage though.

Yea. I think I did discharge the battery once. So I wondered if in doing that it dropped the voltage way low and killed the battery. I figured there would be a fail safe, but maybe I messed up there.

You think you went below 3.2V per cell when you discharged it? Most standalone dischargers (and that charger) have a setting to make sure you do not go below a certain voltage (such as 3.2V specifically)..

I didn't think I did. I actually didn't double check the voltage when I selected the discharge function. I thought the Hota would have that built into the discharge settings to not go below 3.2V. Like you mention.

I do need a second 2s battery, so I could pick up a new battery this week and try that.

Sorry I wasn’t more help. I’d personally try omitting that balance board from the equation by plugging the battery’s balance connector into the charger directly.

Obviously be sure that you’re on the ground side that begins with “-“, then “1-2-3-4xxx”, and with the tabs facing up on the XH connector.

Oh okay. Just connect my balance lead directly where my board is plugged in? Didn't even think of that. I'll have to see about trying that in the morning :)

Yes ma’am. That way if the board has failed (which is quite common), then you’ll know that’s the issue, and can get back out in the dirt. 🤘🍻

Yea. Good call. Well couldn't sleep, so I tried it. Same error. I also investigated the battery more. It definitely has a little "squish" to it. So...I have a feeling the battery is checked out.
Hopefully just a fluke or maybe a different battery brand is on tap...

Can’t help with the charger.. However, every hobbyist should have one of these in their toolbox. Nice to be able to check voltages anywhere anytime. 🤙
Ordered!

Have you poked it with a stick yet?
Thats the only way to tell if its really dead or just playing. :stick:

Weird that it almost works. 🤔
I might take it all out to the driveway and let it run a cycle (or try to) to see if it corrects itself. 🤣

Any chance you can exchange it for another? Its a reasonably new pack isn't it?

Haha. The hota won't let it charge. The pack is only 4 months old. I probably still have the box for it actually. Got it off Amain.

I would contact amain and ask about return. The battery has been used like 5 times, right? ☹️
