Good and sneaky! Nice work so far

I know.. I went to see the newest Fast & Furious movie to kill time. Timed it perfectly too. I walked in the door damn near the exact same time I would had I actually gone to work (with my work clothes on might I add). It's so sneaky I almost scare myself. :) I even dropped my kids off at the sitter this morning with my work clothes on. Chase is going on 4 and he's no dummy so I need to cover all bases.

Ooohh, you're good!

I went to see the newest Fast & Furious movie to kill time.

Was it any good?

Was it any good?

Yeah. I'd say it was right on par with the first one. Lots of cars, lots of girls. I never saw the second one though. I didn't much care. I just needed to kill a few hours. It was either that or Disney's Earth.... Yeah, I think I'll go with fast cars and fast women :) whichever is faster. hehe.

It was either that or Disney's Earth....

Tell you the truth, I can not wait to see Earth. I just need to drive about two hours to see it at an IMAX theater. The cinematography is mind blowing!

Oh, and nice wood work! Again, Happy 5th to you and the Mrs!!!

Other than that, how can it possibly be "GOOD"? Vin Diesel is in it.

He was great in BabylonAD. Only movie I EVER liked him in...

It's no French Connection or Bullit when it comes to the driving scenes.
Even his last one was way to fake to enjoy. I have no intention of seeing this one unless I catch part of it on late night TV.

Oddly enough, for a crap action flick it broke box office records. Sad.

Mounting

I could use some input on how to mount this thing to the way. I figure I'll be using pieces of the same stock 3 1/2 inches long and connecting it to the framework via a dowel in locations where the rectangles connect because it'll be thicker (1/2"). Then I thought I'd just drill like a 10 degree hole in the wall end of it and put it on a nail. The piece is very light and even with 12 tealights it still won't be that heavy. I was thinking I'd have at least 6 mounting pieces throughout the work.

If you guys have any better ideas I'm open to them. My main concern is keeping the mounting simple so it's not over obvious where the mounting is. Of course they will be seen but I really don't want the mounting to interfere with the current design. That is to say I don't want to do any more datos in the framework to attach the mounts.

You could use 'horseshoe' clips on the ends of the mounting rods, and they would hang on small brads driven into the wall at a 45 degree angle.

If anyone is looking for me, I'll be in my PhotoShop.

I'm back....Here ya go.

Ahh, ok. I didn't relize the clips had an inward bend to them... I need to go to Lowe's anyways so I'll see what they have. Thanks Ralph.

If necessary, they are easy enough to make with a stiff, thin gauge wire. You only need to drill and glue them in place.
They are almost invisible if you make them just long enough to go over the rod to catch a brad, and the angle of the brad keeps it against the wall.

Well, sad to say this is definitely not going to be finished by the time she gets home today. I've been up since 5 working on it but there's just sooo much to do and I don't want to sacrifice quality just to put it together. I got everything except the tealight cradles drilled and everything looks pretty darn square if you ask me. I only misdrilled two holes out of the entire thing so not too bad for my first real woodworking project. I'm dowling the corners of the rectangles now and sanding them smooth. This thing is gonna look great when it's all stained and lit up. I know she'll love it no matter so I'm still pretty stoked about it. It's too bad I got started so late, I didn't expect to handcraft a gift when I went shopping last weekend. Oh well...

Thanks to everybody for your help and input. I'll be sure to post pictures when it's finished.

Thank you everybody.

She got home a little while ago and she's very excited to see it all finished. I think we'll be resituating the living room in order to display it where she wants. I'm excited too!
