I'm on IE right now, but last night I installed Firefox again.
First, is there a setting for sounds that I haven't found? When I click a page or link in IE, I get a click. That's helpful in letting me know that it will go there, or I missed clicking the right spot. I don't have it with Firefox.
Now, the worst of it. On THIS page, when I am in the reply box, the smilies and the tag buttons are out of the tan box, and over the side bar navigation.
Can't figure out how to adjust that.

Hey, how about that? Great, WoodiE. I'm on Firefox right now, and everything is working correctly.
Now, about that 'click' sound.

Dunno about sound, I've never cared for it so I never went looking for them. I'll see what I can find on Mozilla's website and forums for ya.

It's just something I've really gotten used to, and really don't want to be without. If I don't hear the 'click', I know I either missed the button, or for some reason it didn't activate. Without the 'click', I'll be waiting for a page change that won't happen.
I've checked all the options, and didn't find anything about sounds.
Not an emergency, but I'd appreciate any one's help on this.

Rolex, I found something that might work. I'm still checking it out and it does add sound to the browser. But sometimes maybe too much. I just put it on so I'm getting used to it. It doesn't "click" when you click on links, it kinda beeps but it may be programmable. I have to check it out. It also makes a little sound whenever your mouse passes over a link. Anyway, if you're interested, it's http://www.extensionsmirror.nl/index.php?showtopic=387
Download the second one which is for Firefox 1.0. You may have to allow the site to install it since all sites are blocked initially. Firefox will promt you.

OK, just perused the extension and you can enable and disable whichever sounds you want and you can change the specific sound for each event. So it looks like it's flexible.

If you want to make it like IE, you can change the sounds.
First find the location on your computer of the file start.wav. That's the click sound.
To change them, click on Tools>Extensions.
Then highlight the Sound Extension and click on Options.
One the first tab (Open/Close), turn them all off.
On the Chrome tab, turn only the menupopup-popupshown item on. Then browse and set the sound to wherever start.wav is on your machine.
On the third tab, set loadstart and loadstop to start.wav and turn the other one off. That should have it sounding like IE in no time.

Excellent information. I was all over it looking for a menu to customize the sounds. Way too much sound. Bells, whistles and chimes wherever the cursor went. I'm back on IE right now, but I'll deal with the Firefox sounds later. Thanks again, I'm well on the way to being pleased with the change.

Have you figured out the tabbed browsing yet? That's one of the things I love most about FireFox.

Although, I'm running an older version because in the newer versions (post version 0.8), when I right click on something to download, there's an option in version 0.8 that saves to disk immediatly without any prompting or any type of box popping up asking you crap. Every version I've downloaded after this one makes you do something to the effect of "Save As..." which gives you the ability to do stuff I don't care about. I just want stuff to download and be quick about it.

Anyone know a fix for that? If so, I'll upgrade to a new version. I've been using a varient of mozilla for about 4 years now... and this is my favorite version.

I've always used the 'save as'.
Different downloads go in different folders.
I believe that choice was in the menu bar under 'tools' then 'options'.
I've heard of the tabbed browsing, but I haven't tried it yet. I had to go back on IE till I get the sounds sorted out later tonight.

If you go to Tools>Options and then to downloads. Uncheck "Show download manager when download begins". If you do that, it will automatically throw the download into the folder of your choosing.
I like Firefox. And the tabbed browsing is cool. But I can't find where I set the browser to open hyperlinks in a new tab instead of a new window.

This is all so typical of computers. You get used to something, and totally comfortable with it and then there's something better to replace it. It always takes a while to make the changes you want before you are familiar with the new version.
It's enough to make me wish I was a Geek, but I'm only a Dork.

Oh well, I tried too and it didn't work. I did figure out that I had some pre-release version of 1.0 or something. I reinstalled the newest version and I got more options. But none does what I want.
The cool thin is the skins you can get. Makes the browser look cool...

I'm back, and I'm on Firefox. I'm getting closer. I turned off all the annoying sounds that went off everytime the mouse moved over anything. I don't have the click in yet, but at least I know where to do it now, and how to locate what I'm looking for. Thanks Candyman.

Still doing something wrong. I only want a sound with the 'left click' and the 'back' button of the mouse. What would they be?

I also have the original problem with smilies and the tag buttons out of the box.

I still get smilies out of the box. I thought WoodiE fixed it today because it looked right, but it must not have stuck. Must be a pain to code for a bunch of different browsers. Maybe it's time to make RCNT totally Firefox friendly. As if he doesn't have enough to do. Maybe now that Eds an admin, he can do something around here....

And if you just want the left click and back button, just activate the "content-loadstart" option in the third tab and that's all....

That figures. Why couldn't they just label it left click and back button.
Great, thanks again. I'll have to get back on Firefox, but I'm almost getting better at being used to being confused.
As far as smilies, the were fine earlier today after WoodiE fixed it, but the problem is back.

OH, CANDYMAN, YOU ARE THE MAN !!!
Life, as I've known it has returned to normal. Just a quiet little click on the left button and the back button. Thank you, thank you.
..............................................................................

It also appears the smiley box has been fixed. Thanks to WoodiE, again.

I have no clue what you guys did, as after I fixed it I never changed anything again. In fact even after you said the problem was back I never changed anything so I'm assuming it might be a cache problem at the time or something. Anyways good to hear everything is working again.
