I just pick up a brand new Redcat VERY cheap. It has a 3.0 motor in it. When i tried to get it started today for the first time it would not fire. The glow plug was lighting fine. Then the motor flooded. Then i cleared it out and tried again. Then the glow plug fouled out. Clear the motor. New plug. Same thing. Some fuel was running out of the muffler too. Any suggestions? Please dont replay with shouldnt have bought it and whatnot. Like i said it was a great deal...if i could only get it to fire. It did try to fire a couple times but never caught.

Thanks.

Which redcat? I just picked up an aftershock 3.5, and had a similar problem at first... mine would start but would flood bad after 30-40 seconds and stall out..

I found that during break in, i had to open the idle a bit more, and run it pig rich.

i also swapped out to a hotter glow plug and that seems to have resolved the issue during break in.

Post break in, the idle can be set lower, and the medium plug it came with works fine.

Its an aftershock 3.0. Mine wont even fire. It tried a couple times but would never catch. I even tried starting with the throttle partial open. What glow plug did you run for the break in? I ruined the stock one and a traxxas 3.3 plug trying to get it going.

One a side note...how do you like the aftershock? I bought it for a play/beater truck because it was dirt cheap and felt pretty sturdy.

Ok got it going. It was WAY rich and i didnt check the HSN. I set it to 2.5 turns out and it fired right off. It also helped that the glow plug heater had good charge in it.

yeah - a fouled or near fouled glow will need a very strong igniter - either that or the one that comes with the redcat starter kit is weak.. i found that i couldn't get mine firing well after 3 or 4 starts from the ignitor.. i'm not new to the hobby, but haven't been around a nitro car is over 10 years... so i'm kind of relearning. I remember getting a hell of a lot more starts out of a charge though.

I'm using a redcat hot plug - its a 70117h. That plus leaning it out post break in worked well for me.

I must say though - the break in was more difficult than i expected. constant fouling, flooding, and stalling at first... using the included instruction set.

after a while i just said screw it and found my own balance with the tune. The 3.5 doesn't have a low speed fuel trim, so it made it harder to zero in on a good tune.

That said - i love the aftershock. balls to the wall quick, and man this thing takes abuse. I'm not saying its the best thing out there, but for the money, you don't feel bad jumping it, wrapping it into a fence, or whatever other inevitable mishaps happen. I'm actually thinking the 3.0 is a better suited motor to this thing, because the 3.5 really narrows down the margin for error at full throttle.. it gets into trouble too quickly to correct.

If it still gives you problems and its starting to get cooler in your area - try a hot plug.. worked well for me.

I ran a full tank through it last night and had no problems once it got warmed up. The motor was running at about 240 at the glow plug the whole time. I picked up an MC59 plug for it also. I'm hoping this truck will be a good middle ground basher between my RC10GT and my revo.

What parts have broken on your truck? I want to order some and have them ready for when i break something.

Glad you got it running. I have 3 Redcats I picked up cheap. I have not broken anything yet.... I had no problems at all getting them started from out the box brand new.

Once i got the carb set right it fired on the first pull and ran well for the first tank. Havnt had a chance to finish the break in yet. I will post up once i do.

haven't broken anything yet, but I've been told by other owners to get a few spare spur gears...

other than that they seem rock solid.
