My job leases me a car for my field work. Not too bad as they get us new cars every 4 years or 70,000 miles, whichever comes first. I usually end up with my cars for the full 4 years as I rarely drive the co. car for personal miles. (Heck, I have 3 other cars, none over 3 years old) and I am rarely in town on weekends anyhow.

Well, the last one was a 2001 Impala. OK car but it was getting beat. (OK, so I flogged it) I was anxious to get my new one and I knew they had ordered it and it was being built. Well, late yesterday got a call from the delivering dealer and they set up an appointment to drop it off at my house at 1:00 today. It's here, on time. They friggin dropped it off right off the semi truck! Has 3 miles on it (and no gas). 2006 Impala LT, cool. (I even get to pick the colors) I think I will drive this one a bit more since gas got so expensive.

Now if they would only pay my motorcoach service bills! (Dropped the coach off this morning for it's yearly service. Gal calls back later, 1400.00!)

I know the feeling revo...got my new work truck in January. Chev duramax with all the bells and whistles. With the price of diesel, it's like adding 4500 bucks to my paycheck. Plus I dont have to buy tires for mine...Good job!!!

That would be so nice ,congrats Revo.
I have been driving my Dad,s 1975 Chevy 3/4 ton Truck and what a gas hog! On a good day it gets 7 mpg. Needless to say I dont drive it much lol. Is that the Impala with the v8?

I have a 1959 Impala LMAO! Thats the newest one I have ever owned hehe

Yeah, Eddy, that is the only lame thing on it; cheap looking hubcaps and not so sporty looking tires. I wish I could do mods. They let us tint the windows at our own expense if we want.

Jesse:

Nah, the LT comes with the 3.5L V6. I think it makes 190hp, so still not too bad. Can't go very fast around here anyhow, especially the hours I drive (rush hour).

The SS version has the V8. Looks like a nice ride!

Ok I wasn't sure  I know a lot about the 58-70,s Impalas. But when it comes to new cars I'm fairly lost lol

The new SS impalas have the v8 that pushes out 320 horspower. Also has the economy setup so it only runs on as many cylinders as it needs. They claim 30mpg. Looks pretty damn sweet, but IMO, I'm not to sure about the cylinder swaping thing. I know its been used in the past and the idea was kinda dumped because the cylinders still move (Of course) its just the distributor doesn't give them cylinder spark, so they used to flood the poop out of them cylinders, so they always worked assy. But I'm sure in todays age, they worked it out, and esp. with chevy taking it on. I like to take one for a rip.

I think its the Monte Carlo that has the nascar set up but not positive.

The newer Impala's are nice but not to my liking. The SS enthusiasts pretty much agree that the Impala SS name died with the last of the Jon Moss Impala SS creations (94-96). Every time sl0eg1n and I roll up to one of the newer Impala's sporting the SS badge with our 96, we just snicker and it turns into a game of "tag" when the other impala creeps up. With the new addition of the 5.3 V8, who knows. Next summer will have to wait for that test. Ours goes back in storage at the end of November.

Diver, those SS's were reeeeallll sweet. The new Impala, as was the just prior body, is front wheel drive, so hook up will be different for straight line acceleration. It does have a modified de Dion rear suspension which is rather unusual for an American sedan, especially in this price and performance category.

And yes, the new SS has a 5.3l V8 that makes 320 hp, and has DOD (Displacement on Demand), same as my Denali. I have not 0-60 or 1/4 mile numbers yet, but the car weighs 4100lbs, so do the math.

Of course, mine being a fleet lease, I do not have near the lux or power of the SS!
