Got me an old girl today!! Savage xl!!!

So I've been contemplating on getting another savage after 8 or so years of having one and I been pretty picky.. came across this one and yes she's dirty but looks to be complete and worth the time to get her going again.. check out my new rig!!

I can't wait to tear into it and make her my own. My plan is to upgrade the electronics and keep it as original as I can. I hope this 5.9 is better then the one I had years ago. I could never get it right.. and I can tune. Just something about the 5.9. Anyone got any advice?

Nice find..I'm ways looking for those,,I have 2 savage x & 1xl all same motor and basically set up same and use them for truck pulls...and the xl is always best.....Rev it tight and have a blast

It's been a long time since I've had a savage but back in 2011 I had a nice batch of savages. I used to build them from.scratch and sell them but I'm not going to do that.. this one's to keep. I told.myself if I got another savage I would jeep her.. lol

The 5.9 is my all time favorite engine ,but I didnt use it in a savage ,I used it in my Mgt. truck with an XTM 290cc fuel tank!
I never had tuning issues with mine ,the only thing that was an issue was the mix meter needle started leaking ,causing
erratic engine run ,all I had to do was smear silicone over the mix screw every now & then to seal the air leak up!..

I was thinking of selling both engines actually. It came with a spare 5.9 with it

The 5.9 is my all time favorite engine ,but I didnt use it in a savage ,I used it in my Mgt. truck with an XTM 290cc fuel tank!

a good piston ,however ,if there no good piston in what you have then I can't use it ,dont care if it

Finally got to wrench on the savage xl tonight. Was able to get out of work early so I could do a tear down and clean. It's missing a few odds and ends and the fuel tank need attention looks like he used the tank for parts as it's missing the cap and screw that goes over the seal under the fuel lid. Minor fixes.. all in all I'm happy with it.
