Ford Getting Owned by a Dodge

The Merkur XR4Ti engine was the T-Bird Turbo Coupe 2.3L I-4. About 150 hp with the auto and 185-ish with the stick. Auto was a dog...

The V-6 was in the Scorpio (four door hatch). It was the German 2.9 solid lifter V-6 like the one used in the earlier Ranger and Aerostar van...

One of the guys here got a '06 Charger R/T HEMI and we took it to the track last night. We only have 1/8th mile track here, but doing the math it comes out to a 15.3 quarter. The damn thing weighs 4,300 pounds! Motor Trend has gotten their's down into the mid-14s I believe, so this one might have some more breaking in to do, though it does have 7K miles on it already...

Yeah, Mustang Man, that was it. I knew the V6 was offered in the 4 door, but I forgot that it was called the Scorpio, but if I remember correctly that was branded as a Merkur product too.(?) Anyhow, yeah, that T-Bird turbo was a real dog. What I meant about the 2.3 was that it had it's roots in the 2.3 L4 from non-turbo products like the 84 Mustang, 80 Pinto, etc. I think they even used the non-turbo in Mercury products like the Zephyr. More Early '80' s junk. Seems like there were very few good American cars back then.

Did not know that about the Aerostar using the German 2.9. Interesting.

AC I wouldn't knock dodge too much...aren't you driving a 3000GT????
ahem take a look at the same year's stealth....
The Dodge stealth was also an awesome car :D My dad owned one and it ran great, his was the twin turbo version. I really don't mind Dodge that much, just wanted to see your reactions haha. Altho our next car will be a ford, my dad is first on the waiting list for a 2007 Ford Shelby Cobra GT500 :)

I watched the movie and here is my opinion.
I heard the engine of a well modified cummings diesel. (I know the sound)

I'm not a Dodge, or ford guy, I'm just posting what I heard.

If they were both bone stock, I'd like to see the results.

I guess the main reason I said that is cause most people into trucks I know don't like dodge, they are all chevy people. I'm not into trucks....which is why I have a 3000GT....but I have heard a lot of bad stories about Dodge trucks. My dad is a Surgeon and he had a patient that had both legs and one arm broken in 10 places due to a car crash when the truck lost a tie rod...guy went right into a tree....was driving a dodge.

Well I don't know what you guys are talking about.
I just watched the movie again and that wasn't even a dodge!!
You guys are retarded.
That was an LST pulling that Ford.

I had to look/listen to that video again. One thing that really struck me the second time was that the Ford had a lot of wheel hop. It was literally breaking traction the entire time due to the hopping. A better plant of the rear end would have gained it a lot in traction.

Tuned Turbo Cummins? Yeah, I heard it, I've been around enough diesel hauled fifth wheel travel trailers to know when one has been warmed over. We don't use those in DP's as they overheat something fierce in rear engined rigs. And noone seems to need to aftermarket tune a CAT diesel! Nothing purrs like a CAT! What freaks me out is that there are people out there that buy 37,000lb diesel motorhomes with the 5.9 Cummins TD and expect it to move. This 5.9 is the same one that the Dodge P/U uses. Go figure.

I'm a Ford guy all the way, but actually drive a Gmc Sierra that I love alot. But I would NEVER buy a dodge. I wouldnt buy one for the fact that I dont like replacing transmissions, I like decent gas milage, and also Recalls are a hassle to me. And With the new Hemi Truck having over 30 recalls, I would have lit that bitch on fire and collected the insurance money..lol

See, you are all forgetting something. You all are saying that you hate Dodge...that dodge sux..that dodge's are unreliable... Yet, you forget that dodge is manufactured by CHRYSLER.... It's not Dodge's fault, and it's not like they can just get up and start makin their own stuff all of a sudden... And, all chrysler suv's and trucks have the transmission problem. So, the recalls and problems are far more than just Dodge...
All Dodge has a say in, is the design, not the materials used and such... Now, I've personally always liked Dodge, and I would possibly buy one, definately not one of the more problemed vehicles... But the main reason I've always liked Dodge is the cars they make/have made, and the direction they are heading in (except for the 4-door Charger...EVERYONE can agree that making it a 4-door was majorly retarded...) But it's too bad that dodge has to be knocked down by having such a poopy owner/manufacturer like Chrysler...

The tranny problems are in the Dodge trucks, and mini vans. Also Chysler and dodge are basically the same damn thing, just a different badge. There all the same parts, same colors and assemble at the same places. I think Chysler has ALOT of nice looking cars, and so does dodge. The magnum, the 300, Chargers and Srt4s are nice as hell, but mechanically, Id never own one.

Basically what I just said...except that the tranny problems are in a lot of chrysler vehicles too...

So, I guess we can expect that new Mitsubishi pick-up to be unreliable or have problems as well. Cause it's going to be made by Chrysler (I know, wtf? But that's what I've heard from Car and Drive, and Autoweek..)

I'll agree that the Charger's name is goofy, but it is a cool car anyway. They should have given it a 4-door name like Intrepid or Gran Fury. I also like the Magnum and the 300C. I am getting a LX Hemi Mopar next year to replace my current daily driver.

FORDS BLOW

reasons: i suffer from a massive depression because of them.

1. parents died in a pinto, burned to death because the were hit from behind by what else but a ford f-150 because the master cyliner failed

2. brother died in an excursion or something (suv) because of fords bad deal with firestone tires, tires blew, rolled over roof collapsed and killed him instantly.

3. cousin and uncle died in a fire two years ago because of an f-250 or something, module shorted out and started on fire while they were sleeping and the house burnt down aunt has gone crazy since then.

4. foriegn parts, i dont trust the japanese and korean ect.. when it comes to parts on a vehicle they dont know what the f**k they're doing.

catch my drift? i cringe at the word ford :arrr: wont catch me dyin in a ford.
buy chevy and dodge for a long happy life

wow man, i'm sorry to hear that, you will not find any fords at our house, just 2 chevy's, my supercharged saturn(not really) and my father's 500 HP Mopar(1985 Ram)

EDIT
Rossb, I also agree the charger pictured should be called something else. Must admit, it does have some muscle to it you know, but the charger name it should not carry.

man buster that sounds harsh...sorry to hear about your ford problems.....how old were you when your parents were in the accident?
I'd say you have a reason to be angry w/ Ford....
