Well, I guess I'm overdue for this but I had my first runaway today. The only real damage I have is a bent CVD. Will it be ok to run my truck if I bend it back somewhat straight until I can get around to replacing it? I don't understand why it ran away though. I have to chec a couple things. I have a failsafe AND a TRS. I just finished rebuilding my Maxx today. I think it went haywire cuz my antenna wire was not high enough. I had it wrapped real low close to the chassis, I dunno why, I should know better. I started to give it some gas and after it got a little ways away from me ...gone! zipped across the street and ran into my neighbors house.. fortunately it didn't do any damage to their house..phew. although it did eat a couple flowers.. sorry. Anyways, I ran over to it cuz it's screamin at full throttle upside down and I noticed as soon as I got back within a few feet of it it returned to idle... Tx was with me of course. I think it's pretty safe to assume that it was my Rx wire not being high enough that was the culprit... but why didn't the failsafe kick in? It's not new.. I've used it before. Although, it hasn't been hooked up to anything in a while...........o poop

Now I feel like a REAL dumbass. As I'm writing this I realized that when I set up my truck I had to reverse the throttle servo because the linkage was different. Damn. this was just pointed out not too long ago wasn't it? :nono: stupid, stupid, stupid... Well, I hope you guys get a laugh outta this... What about that CVD though? can I straighten it?

so your failsafe worked it was just set up incorrectly?? um i bent a shaft on my savage and beat it back out.. i havent run it yet but it rolls fine with it .. wouldnt leave it long like that though.. may wear the cups faster..

yeah, that's true... I'll see what I can do for the mean time.

yeah, the failsafe was setup incorrectly. When I set up my truck I turned the carb around so I had to change all the linkage... which meant I had to reverse the throttle/brake servo... so instead of the failsafe kickin into full brake... it kicked into full throttle. such a newbie mistake.. I should've reprogrammed my failsafe but I didn't think about it....

well i guess your subname (??) proved true today.. its gonna be hard to find just one cvd.. but if you take time and get it as close to strait as possible.. (i just beat on mine with a hammer untill it looked strait.. but this was after replacing it with a new shaft and i was just seeing if i could get it strait again..) you should be ok.. just watch that cup and if it starts wearing faster than the others. invest in another set of cvd's at least then you will have 3 backups..

Toss that CVD and get a new one. AT high revolutions, that thisng is going to cause major vibrations and wear on the cups due to it being out of balance, even if the bend was only slight.

I straightened it out pretty good with a hammer and a block of wood. If it wears anything out faster I'll just have to replace that too... chalk it up to the hobby. I don't want to buy a new pair of CVD's unless I absolutely have to, and at this point I don't think it's completely necessary.

you got that right! LOL

It's basically how a vibrator works. Spinning shaft that throws more on one side that the other.

The vibration will also wear out bearings and axles in a hurry...I learned the hard way.

yep, didn't take long... won't have to worry about it wearing anything else out. RPM simply through the shaft itself out of wack again... time to replace... ugh.

Let that be a Lessen to you then!

What brand of failsafe?

Dynamite, I don't like it.

It did exactly what it was programmed to do but it makes my throttle inputs glitchy. Doesn't always want to go to full throttle. I don't recommend it at all.
