I'm up too my tenth tank on the new car. I have noticed a rather opposing problem. When I run the car for prologed periods of time, There is a build up of a gold-coloured liquid along the body (the inside of the body, along where the exhaust vents and along the outside lower portion.) Also along the bottom of the exhaust pipe itself. I think this liquid might be some kind of lubricant. I use O'donnells racing fuel...

I also noticed, and this might get a bit difficult to explain- but here goes: Where you add the fuel to the tank, There is a strong spring around the top, to keep the tank closed.attached to the gas tank are two pliable blue hoses. One leads into the needle valve, fueling the enigine itself. Now, the thing I do not understand is the other hose. It leads into the back of the EXHAUST PIPE??!! that just seems to be...well- assinine. the fuel that is passed through the exahust hose is usually brown or other murky colored, and is deposited directly into the tank itself. WTF is this about? If anybody has any ideas, pleasse post- It would ge greatly appreciated. I would post pics, but Don't want to be a bandwith whore.

Jeff

the liquid is the oil out of the fuel, and the hose you are taling about is the pressure line, it pushes air(exaust) into the tank forcing the fuel into the carburater.

Tweak...

First nitro car huh? :D

The fuel hose from the exhaust supplies pressure to the fuel tank (thus the need for the strong spring on the cap) to push the fuel into the engine. Notice there's no fuel pump on these things!

The brownish oil residue you are seeing is the byproduct of combustion in the nitro engine. The fuel has a lubricant in it (also notice the engine does not have an oil sump) to keep the engine lubricated, the excess lubricant comes out with the exhaust. This is what you see smoking at WOT. (That's Wide Open Throttle, figured that might be your next question!)... :D

All is well, just keep it clean and watch the temps and go have fun!

Coolage. Ya, it is my first. I was just a bit worride and actually did not want to run the car until I was sure that the exhaust was not pushing forigen debris into the tank. As for the lines itself, I am going here in a couple hours to get a fuel filter. Should I get two, one for each line? I dont see a reson to filter the presurized line, as it would kind of defeat the pourpose. I also need to pick up a new exhaust pipe and fuel lines. As for the fuel and oil, would you suggest pumps and filters?

ger a fuel filter for the fuel line only( the one comming from your fuel tank to you carb.) Do not get one for the pressure line(there i no purpose.

Don't try to find a pump... they don't make them for rc's, at least not for off road rc's. The pressure line is your pump. It's all you need.

You can get a stinger extender (exhaust deflector) for your pipe to keep some of the goo away from the chassis/body: http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXL377&P=7

The larger one is for .21 sized pipes, the smaller is for .12-.18 sized pipes.

I would highly recommend the exhaust deflector from the post above. It helps when cleaning.

Also... when you are done running, keep a few paper towels in your pocket or toolbox (get one of these too, to take with you to keep parts and stuff in... also, lock the lid when not in use.. picking up screws and glowplugs off of a hot parking lot because your friend has not throttle control is not fun.. haha)

Tear off a corner of paper towel and twist it up like you are trying to dig out a booger with it and stick it in the exhaust stinger to keep excess oil from running all over you, your car, your floor, your wife, and your workbench until you can get it home and clean... Even then you will want to either (1. keep a piece of paper towel in the stinger at all times when not running) or (2. put one under the car so it will catch any dripping oil)

Are you using after run oil?? I didn't see you post that from the trip to the hobby shop.

Don't worry about catching any slack from RC nerds. This site is pretty clear of them. We are RC dweebs. hahahaha

Other sites are full of know-it-alls who hate to answer questions, but amazingly have tons of time to post complaints.

I ask questions all the time. I don't care. If I don't know it, I need to!!!

Uh. No after run oil for me. i just drain the gas tank, make sure the piston is down, Clean it up a bit and sometimes do some internall tweaking to make sure it doesn't get clogged.

Tweak,

Did you see the "TIPS" tab on the top left? Now go do some reading. Start with "Hop-Ups that every Nitro machine should have done before it’s first run".

After that use the search. You will be able to find whatever you need to know and learn. I am sure there are plenty of discussion and suggestion that had been made previously.

By the way. Welcome and enjoy your stay here at the best RC forum.

Yeah, I would definately get some after run oil. I can't believe that guy at the hobby shop didn't tell you about it.
You have to have it. You could get by with wd40 for now, but you really need to get some. It is cheap, and will help you motor last for a good while.

Also, if you have any marvel mystery oil that will work.

I use Marvel Air Tool Oil for my after-run. My oldest brother has been using this on an OS 70FS Surpass for years and has never, ever had a single problem, and 4 strokes are even more picky about leaving fuel residue in them. I imagine any good after-run, or Marvel Mystery oil is as good, I just use what I know. Just a few drops in the carb, or glow plug hole, and turn the engine over a few times, and you are set.

Well, i just got back from the LHS. i talked to a diffrent guy, and he even said he couldn't believe the first prick did not recommend some essential parts, and only wanted to sell the most expenisve hop ups he had. I went ahead and dropped the ten bucks for the year long pass to thier two tracks, one dirt/one paved. I bought some of the parts I mentioned in other posts and installed them there in the pit area. There was only one other person out there, But he had just bought a "Jago" from inside and took it out of the box right there. He notcied my car sounding a little jagged, So he gave me a short tutorial on tune-ins and do's and don'ts of nitro on-road. Within minutes this guy had my rig SCREAMING. I mean this is power that I never thought I would see from this little set of metal and plastic. It burned thru a tank of gas extremely quickly, So we tuned it back down a little. He showed me how to remove the pull starter from the engine body and I got a starter box from the store. As for the oil, I dropped ten bucks for a small bottle, witch the guy said would last a while. So all-in-all, I have dropped about three times the cars worth into it. Not bad for my first rig. Some new air and fuel filters, and some pre made body pin pulls (mentioned in the how-to section, and a GREAT idea) a better set of fuel lines and a starter box, It seems I'm running good for a while. Sorry to anybody who cares for writing such lenghtly posts, but I'm really stoked about the whole idea of taking this new venture of mine to the next level. As for the Jago, the guy in the shop said it is a relatively new car, And again- to those who care, I saw this thing go from box to ground running in about four minutes. It hauled some major ponies, and thanks to the extensive track at my LHS, required a new set of shocks and a new body after it's first run. The guy was really imppressed with it's performanceon the field. BTW Beason- I threw a plug for RCNT and basshing on Sundays and he seemed pretty interested. Lemme know if it's cool to refer someone to the site or even to your bash sessions.

Jeff

Jeff, not to be picky, but do you mean "Jato" versus "Jago"?

I agree; don't buy a bunch of upgrades for your rig that are mostly just for looks. Get used to driving and tuning it first. If something breaks, replace it with a better part then.

I thunk it was a Jato... I dunno, the damn thing was movin pretty fast. Had a sleek black body with large blue and yellow letters. Big stock tires, Also yello.

by all means refer to the sight.. about the bashes.. we welcome anyone.. if they dont belong they will know it quick and wont come back. as are you comming or not?? and what hobby shop you going to?

M&M Hobby, Belaire Texas. Small shop, small selection, high prices.

and also yes, i did break it in. i ran it thru two tanks jest left sitting, throttle barlely idiling. On the second thr fourth tank I ran it at very low speeds. i left it alone all night and took it out the next day, when i went to go grab some hop-ups. I finally left the throttle open today when the guy from the hobby shop was showing me ther ropes, very minimally. i think tommorow I am going to strap some good tires on it and try for a little bit rougher conditions...

.... sounds like another hobby shop I know.

surely not this one :) www.fastrakrc.com

Definitely come out to bash with me, beason, and wannarunem. We need more people to run with. The more the marrier. And we'll help you out when you break down.
