Ok,
I am gonna be painting a car for a guy,now he wants me to throw together an estimate and he wants it broken down.I have one problem no where can i find sample sheets for estimates for me to go off of.Any one on here no where i can find a good estimate sheet to use.I would use my dads Quick Books program but i can't unless i set up a whole new company or add to his contracting and snowplaing company which i dont wnat to do.

So if some could hel i would greatly appreciate(sp?) it.

Thanks

or... tell him to blow it out his ass... lol Set a fixed price, for what he wants...

What Id do is make him get the stuff YOU need then, and just charge him for labor. Once he goes and sees how much paint, reducer, hardener, clear, Sand paper, putty...etc.. He'll quit bitchin.. your talking 1:1 right?

Yea i am talking 1:1.I threw together a price of $650,That includes my Labor set at $35 for 12 hrs, then i charge for the gallon of single stage $110,the reducer $20.00,the hardener $15.00,and the $35.00 in prep materials. At the end of the sheet i am gonna put that any rust repair is extra and i will contact you before i start any body work to discuss prices.

That $650 also includes $50 to install his head unit

Is his car completely straight? No dings, dents or other probs such as rust spots? I'd work those incidentals into the process. Trim removal will bring problem areas into play, unless he just wants a quick bondo job and shot of paint.

I ust remember how much time I used to put into prepping a car for paint. Between sanding, filler, masking ... it was tedious. I'd think about your labor charge again.

definitely, what kind of car is it? A gallon might be stretching it a bit... don't you think so. I had an '85 chevy s10 blazer and a gallon wasn't enough for it.

Yea the more i am think i will prolly up it to $40 an hour for the general painting and $45 an hour for doing the body work and everything. The only reason i say a gallon is if there is any left over i keep it for future cars.

Make sure to get half payment before work begins, and then the final payment once the job is completed. If he doesn't like the work and refuse final payment, at least you're not totally SOL.

Also, if he wants a firm price estimate (I think that's what they're called), make sure to overstate the labor a bit just to give you a little room in case you run into any problems. Also, if you give him a quote on how many hours it will take for each part of the job, overstate that a bit also.

well right now he said Maaco was to much so that is why he called me.So i figure Maacco told Him 1,500-2,000,So i am gonna throw 1,150.00 at him,So once i take off $180 for material cost i am left with $960 which comes out to $60 an hour at 16 hours of labor.

A gallon wasn't enough?? Good lord! A gallon should have been enough to paint that a time and a half.

$650 is REALLY cheap. What kind of paint are you using? Also, Id charge about $50 a HOUR for labor, and thats cheap. If the guy thinks Macco is to much money, I think Id just let this project pass because I think that hes going to be more of a pain in your ass than anything. Macco paint jobs are like $450 and are total crap. Most of the paint will blow off in a good car wash..lol.. I wouldnt waste my time painting a car for anything less than $1500. I worked in 2 different body shops for over 4 years and the lowest paintjob I think I saw run threw there was $2200.

4u2nv is right, the work my familly get's into are shop is usually maccoo, and we have to strip the whole fiddlesticking car because of cheap paint, and they don't sand the car,the barelly scuff it,a gallon is hell of a lot of paint,i don't think we've ever used that much paint on anything.by the time you reduce it,you would have enough to do at least 2 cars.
