  1. Bashing
Just lookin for some feedback for an engine. My lhs has an OS .18 that he said would fit with no problem but he said the motor would probably snap alot of parts on the MT as it isnt the most durable of vehicles to rebuild. That bieng said I still want to do the project over the winter. When finished it would be a basher. I will probably keep it a 1 speed and am definately wanting to keep it a smallblock. Opinions appreciated............:marshall:

I put an OS .18TM in my MT2....(Insert Tim Taylor chimp noise) Oh damn did that sucker EVER wake up. I mean that little thing is like a 4 wheel drive Jato. It is absosutly batistic. Most of the guys at the track love/hated it. Love to watch it run but hated to run against it. It turned into one of my favorite models to drive because of that. Retarded fast but still controlable. So far I have not had any driveline issues with it. (yet) However, I have broke ALL the axle carriers and upgraded to alloy and had no problems since then.

The alloy knuckles and c hubs are first on the list. Gotta go back to lhs tomorrow to get RPM arms for my MGT. Came awful close to pickin up the OS before I left today. Been lookin online all night and so far it seems like theres only a couple versions of an OS and HPI powerplants. If I go OS than would I have to look at custom engine mounts? Also what type of flywheel/clutch setup do people suggest?

You are kinda stuck with the same flywheel since it is made for that vehicle I am pretty sure. It is a little one off...I could be wrong though. I used an old Savage 21/25 two shoe aluminum clutch, so far so good. Since it is a small block engine it should last a long time. The mounts are the same though, bolts right up. The engine I used I had to rig up a new throttle linkage for it since it had a slide carb. That was a bit of a PITA. Heck I think I might even have a side exhaust OS .18 with a rotory carb laying around. What were they asking for the one at your LHS you were looking at?

$150 without flywheel, clutch, and engine mount. I can probably get 1 of the above for free seeing as to I buy everything for my MGT thru them and have given them ALOT of business. From what I've seen online they typically arent too expensive from online shopping (ebay) and I typically dont mind giving them the money as it helps support a small local business.

Yeah $150 is pretty on point for the going price. That is what they are at Tower as well so I would go local. My extra .18 I only put about half a gallon through and bent the chassis of the ST I had it in. Damn AM radios....fail safe won't work if the receiver is getting the wrong signal. It was sad and funny...engine stayed running but could not steer since the chassis was rubbing the ground and the wheels were in the air it bent so much.....bye bye Losi. Parted the sucker out and kept the engine.

Ended up going with the HPI nitro star .15 w/pullstart. It was a cheap enough powerplant ($65) and a good starting point to work with. I have to remember this will be going into something I havent even seen yet so it may need some severe other work first. Dont wanna blow my wad on an engine if the balance of the drivetrain is junk. I can always upgrade and keep the .15 as a backup for future rc's
