Are those things supposed to be in contact with each other? I feel like that's what burned out this board. The steering works, but the throttle doesn't. It's an all-in-one.

Definately not! Was there any smoke? If not, id try separating them and put some type of insulator between them.
Yes. There was smoke the first time it shorted. It basically caught fire in the hobby store. Everything else works, though.
idk if its me or the pic or what, but the top of the green capacitor in the first pic looks a little weird to me. could be bad? if it is, changing it might fix it.
should be able to test it with a multimeter.
I'll try to test it.

Any of this look suspicious?

it's "waterproof" isn't it? i forget the name of the stuff they spray on the board but i think that's what I'm seeing. that throws a monkey wrench into my initial thought.
idk, if you're hell bent on trouble shooting, check the capacitors to see if they're puffed at all or leaking.

Conformal coating.

If you can't fix it, you should at least buy it dinner and tell it how sorry you are! 🙄🤣

Don't see any nomenclature so no idea what lies beneath the black plastic, but if those are power transistors in a heat-sink package having the metal heat-sinks touching isn't your issue, as they should be electrically isolated from the component.
