Do you dip your toes in other areas of RC?

Curious how many of you try "all things RC" or do you stick to one main discipline? Any of you flying planes or helicopters?

I've looked at multi pitch 3d helis & STOL small stunt planes. YT & online. Drones. Quad-copters. Boats many, many times. Right now, ground only is all I own.

Same. I have all surface / ground cars / trucks / buggies. Mostly into off-road. But I just got the thought about trying to revive my tt02 and try to race it during the winter season to try out onroad. Currently in the works of a Typhon 6s project which will be a huge step for me as I'm used to 10th scale indoor and always wanted to try bigger cars and outdoor racing. Also want a mini crawler or trail truck sometime.

But other areas of rc like planes helis boats or drones, i played with the toy ones YEARS ago. But never tried current hobby grades models like those. After seeing a DJI at Costco been wanting a drone but don't got that kind of money.

I’ve done aircraft, as well as multiple surface vehicles.. Today, and for the last 20yrs or so-I stick to 1/8 buggy, and truggy… I have been having an itch to do a 1/8 onroad GP car, as well as an OG Tekno MT410 1/10 monster truck lately as well..

I’ll more than likely never do anything else, as I just don’t have the desire to. 1/8 off-road really quenches my RC thirst across the board.. It I do build a GP, and MT, I’ll just do the two, and be content with them and my 1/8 *uggies for the duration..

I WOULD like to grab up a few old school 1/10 electrics to be dedicated shelf queens-strictly for nostalgic purposes… Very Specific vehicles as well:

Tamiya Grasshopper
Tamiya Hornet
Tamiya Wild One
Tamiya Lunchbox
Kyosho Ultima

Those will all be kit build repro’s…

And THOSE will be used (and likely complete basket cases) I pick up, and go through, complete to roughly period correct.

I have done line of sight as well as FPV drones, along with a cheap camera drone. My son had an airplane, which lasted 3 flights before mother nature took it somewhere, never to be seen again.

We also have one boat.

I've done just about everything there is to do in this hobby over more than 50 years. I started building stick and tissue rubber powered airplanes in my youth. I moved into control-line models when my father bought me a Cox Baby Bee .049 and flew a great many planes in the local school yard. I moved into R/C airplanes afterwards and built lots of balsa kits. I raced nitro R/C boats for quite some time in IMPBA District 1 and was club High Point Champion three years in a row. When we lost our pond access, I moved into R/C cars and raced both nitro and electric cars, buggies and trucks over some 20 years. When the local R/C tracks closed, I went back into R/C airplanes and flew over 300 flights in 2022. I've had to take a step back the last few years but still tinker in almost all areas. I've tried crawlers lately, but it just wasn't my cup of tea.

The only reason the Ultima is on the list is because it was my old man’s first race grade kit.

It is a great kit. I put a Castle Sidewinder 3 SCT ESC in it along with the 3800kv motor. On carpet, it will do a standing back flip. The first time I blipped the throttle I was worried I might have scratched it

I messed with Cox planes, cars, had a heli too. I've been into r/c car and truck for decades. Nitro and electric. Brushless is still somewhat new for me. Have been messing with mini drones with line of sight only.
I want to try flying a plane and better drones. I would def get into boats if I still was on the water somewhere still.

Aside from the obvious cars and trucks, I also fly planes once in a while and fly a drone but not often enough.

I'm thinking about grabbing a small heli for Breydon to play with. I think he could fly one. He was able to fly a plane, so his sense of control direction as the vehicle is facing him seemed on point, like it is with the cars.

iv got a couple no name helicopters and a quadcopter i attempt to fly. ...mostly at work when the boss is on vacation...

and iv got a Nikko Jet Tornado boat that came stock with a silver can 540 motor and runs on 6 C cell battery's. iv been meaning to swap the guts out to hobby grade. not real motivated for that do to lack of a place to run a boat.

Mostly trucks and cars. Had a total of 5 boats..still have 1, ProBoat Impulse 31. The sailboats don't stick around for some reason. Lost one in an ugly divorce, lost one at sea. The other boats...Miss Geico hydro and a PT boat got sold. So many cars over the years. A mix of on and off road.

Dipped my toes to a variety of surface RC. RC boats being the exception. Haven't tried one of those yet. 1/8 nitro bug being the most favorite; 1.9 comp crawler being the least favorite.

Always had a hankering to try my hand at cross-country RC glider. Were I twenty years younger, I'd give that a go. -AC

I had one of those Blade copters for inside use. Kinda fun to dive bomb the dogs.
