I'd like to put in a new deck for the wife's new rig. I'm looking for a good source online for a single din DVD/CD deck with bluetooth. I know about Crutchfield but I've heard their prices aren't the lowest and I'm a cheap bastard. :D

Crutchfields prices are outrageous, I wouldn't buy something from them if my life depended on it. I used to buy tons of stuff on ebay, there are some REALLY good prices out there. I used one ebay store a lot, I'll look through my records anf find the name.

Another good source is http://onlinecarstereo.com/

I have bought some REALLY nice high end stuff ad rediculously low prices in their "hot deals" section.

Let me know if you need help finding anything or want some opinions, I use to have an installer business and was a licensed dealer for Pioneer, Soundstorm, Soundstream, and some other companies. I don't have my tax number or accounts anymore, or I could get you some stuff for pennies on the dollar.

crutchfeild may not be the cheapest but with world class customer service and free wiring harness and installation kit you can't go wrong.

I'm a repeat buyer and would/will go back with a smile.

The wife's rig is a 2002 VW Eurovan. It currently has a factory cassette deck with a factory installed cd changer (Panasonic) under the front passenger seat. There is an aftermarket Boss DVD player installed in the lower console. The DVD player has a video output to a single LCD mounted in the headliner. The audio output from the DVD player is connected to an infrared unit in the center console.

The PO gave me some busted up infrared headphones to listen to audio from the DVD player. Turns out that the infrared sending unit is busted and the PO failed to tell me this. In a jam, I went to Circuit City and picked up a FM transmitter and hooked it up to the DVD player so the kids could hear movies. Problem is that the FM transmitter does not have very good sound quality.

I was going to pick up an aux interface to hook up to the factory deck via the CD changer input, but then I lose the CD changer and thus losing the ability to play CDs. I was also going to install a bluetooth speakerphone when I realized that both of these products are close to the cost of a new deck with all the functions I need. We don't even own cassettes and the CD changer is inconvenient to access from the bottom of the seat. I'd like to be able to play a DVD for the kids, have the sound play through the speakers in the rear and if the front speakers could play a different source that would be a huge bonus.

J&R Music World in New York City. I used to buy there in person when I lived there, and I've made several internet purchases since.
No tax if you don't live in N.Y. or Jersey and excellent prices on anything electronic.

Crutchfield does have good customer service, I just don't buy from them because of there prices. Tower has good service, but I wouldn't buy a Savage from them for $800 just because of there service, I just can't afford to.

If I were you, I would install a nice CD player head unit in the dash, and put in a nice DVD player under the seat or installed in the back somewhere for the rear screen. The DVD players are DIN sized, and I was selling really nice ones for about $125 when I was installing. It would be way cheaper than going to other route that you mentioned in the PM.

SD, if you need a big amp, I'm getting to sell a really nice amp brand new. It's not something for the wife and kids though, but if you want to spice up the sound quality in your other ride, let me know.

It's a brand new, Lanzar pro series, 2000 watt 2 channel amp. The pro series has all the features built in that a person could need. Lanzar has some of the best amps that I've had for sound quality, for the price. Soundstream is by far the best, but it aint cheap either.

I bought this for my mom's Honda, but I had another amp that was a little smaller, and that was plenty for her two 10 inch subs.

I've been out of the car audio scene for a looong time now but I used to do a fair amount of business with Crutchfield as well. I did my first car completely through them. When I had a question about a particular rear deck clearance that wasn't listed they had the answer for me lickity split. I didn't realize they were expensive but all I remember from 10 years ago was how much help they were when I needed it.

I personally look in the OPEN box line at Best Buy abd Circuit City. There are some deals there. I found my Pioneer deck I bought 350 a few weeks before I saw this and it was priced at 180. It had no manual and car adaptor. You normally have to buy that

When I replaced the deck and speakers in my truck last year Crutchfield's price was very competitive after figuring in the free install kits that would have added around $100.00 anywhere else. Make sure you take that into consideration before buying. Crutchfield includes everything needed to do a nice clean install with clear directions for free....No cut wires, and no cutting the dash or speaker holes to get things to fit!

And there CS is top notch, I called for a little help and the guy knew exactly how to help and was very nice!

exactly guys, about a year or so ago(last purchase from crutchfield) my brother purchased 2 10" subs, amp, cap and a amp wiring kit from them. we were installing it in his 02 extended cab chevy and i had to fab a really small box to fit under the backseat.(.5 cubic ft./sub) he wasn't wanting to blow window seals or anything just add alittle low note, he purchased a kenwood 600w amp and 2 sony explode 10"s. I've had alot of kenwood amps so i know what to expect from them but have no experience with sony explode subs. well we were less than impressed with the sound quality both being audiophiles so he decides to give it a chance for about a week. i adjusted on that system for 2 days with no luck. so he calls up crutchfield and tells them our experience and they ask what we believe the problem to be and i said it had to be the subs, i think eventhough they recommended the specific airspace we had that they actually needed more and we didnt have anymore to give so they say send them back. he did and asked me for recomendation on replacements. i chose polk audio and they shipped them to him before we ever removed the sony subs from his truck! as soon as they arrived we installed them and was blowed away by the difference.

exchanging audio equipment is normally a PITA because alot of people really dont know what they are doing and for a company to ship another product out on good faith that we would return the other was astonishing. not to mention that there wasn't a defect in anything it was just returned outa preference. who else would do that? anywhere else and he would have been stuck with the crappy sounding explodes!
