Cool, I hope to get to my carpet track one or a few more times before we pack up and move to Tucson. I was thinking about building a new buggy for one of the tracks that is in Chandler, AZ called Hobby Action RC i was thinking about either a new 22X or 22X-4 Elite.

Well, the 22 5.0 is $250 rn on Horizon Hobby.

Shaking off the rust, again, but literally. Well, on the slash it was 🤣(I haven't been in over almost 2 months)

New layout at the clay track. Something new and interesting. The back lane near the driverstand is the new straight, and the old "straight" is now split up and some new table top wood jumps. Since the new straight is the back straight now I feel like it is slightly longer so you get more speed. How in the world is my 2wd (17.5) faster speed wise down the straight than my 4wd (13.5)? I have no idea. Lol. Met some new people, racers, and helping out a new racer as well with her car. May not be a packed race day with more people but the smaller club race days make it more fun.

2WD: Been running like a champ all day up until the A Main where I got a DNF since my axle popped out of the outdrive somehow. not sure how since the ball cup was still on. I guess it flexed too much when landing. (But I lost drive in the sweeper...🤔 weird). Tires, are questionable. Grip was actually pretty decent in the morning but when Q3 rolled around I was sliding and it turned into a drift car but in the mains I learned and got over on how to manage and control it better with slide-y tires. Like idk which race it was but I sauced the tires right before the race. my 2 check in laps grip was great, but as soon the clock started, grip wasn't there, like the compound worn off quickly. Can't complain as I'm running on nearly/probably 10yr old discontinued now ProLine Primes that are shedding rubber chunks everywhere. 🤣🫠 Yes planning on getting new tires soon. Just trying to hold out and get my moneys worth out of every tire. Biggest things of the day was Q1 (moved to 3rd from 4th), Q2 (moved from 2nd to 1st), stayed consistent in the B main and got that bump. (shoutout to one of my buddies for lending me a spare pack for the A since I didn't have a spare one charged) Fastest lap of the day was 18.7. Average consistency of 86-94%.

4WD: Good as always. I know how to drive on wheeler. Can seriously wheel around. Nothing much to say other than ole worn out tires. ESC fan blew. blade just hit the eject button. have 1 spare fan and ill wrap a zip tie around and hopefully it will work. I have a worn (warped) out block on the front left, per usual AE part quality. Been beating on that block for the past 2 race days with the same issue so I'm not worried until it falls apart. Front left tire came unglued just slightly in Q3, didn't bother to fix it because why? Lol. Also the front right hinge pin for the hub into the arm kept backing out, while that set screw was super right. wonder if I need a new pin, new hub, new arm or new set screw.? Biggest things of the day was 4th to 1st in Q1 and 3rd to 2nd in Q2. Fastest lap of the day with this car was 16.8. Average consistency of 88-92%.

Practice: Finally got to test out the Reflex on the track since i've been mostly running it in the street, now its mostly worn down to slicks, although the stock tires are quite a hard compound. It hooked up pretty good, granted I sauced the tires the night before, not on race day. The overall truck is super sensitive to brake inputs when trying to land from a jump causing you to flip/crash. I feel like its just because its 4wd on a shorter wheelbase that a truggy shouldn't really be on, plus it isn't really that wide. Mini B: Testing out the new rear slicks, which these were just stock BK Bar tires burned-out to slicks with only 2 times ran over with compound, it hooked up WAY better than my old slick-ified Jcon ellipses. Much better around the track with not sliding out in not that aggressive turns. Rustler and Pro4 been running the same setup so those are always dialed 👌. Slash, before, I added some preload in the front to make it more stiffer, helped alot with keeping it stable and not "dipping in" in aggressive turns. Grip with the OG Smoothie SCT Greens is also hooked.

Also, first track day with the G-E-N-S A-C-E D300 charger. Locked in with that extra wattage ;)

Sweet stuff and sounds like you had a great day at the track, I'm glad you like your new charger i have one just like it I might buy some XT60 race pack charge leads for mine next month so i can take my newer charger to the track. And eventually retire my old HTRC charger i've had for ages now it's now kind of messed up and it has gnat corpses trapped inside of the screen lens and the fan is super loud. Also looks like some of your tires are shot but at least they aren't super pricey to replace.

Didn't run em. We only had 2 mini truggies and my buddy said if there isn't 3 they aren't running. Plus I wasn't gonna run the rustler anyways bc I would be atleast 3.5 seconds off the pace from those things. (They call mini truggy, 4wd stadium truck here) (Most of the mini truggy guys here run mod motors anywhere from 8.5t to 5.5t. super fast.)

Plus Stadium Trucks and Short Courses are getting too faded out. Buggies are the main thing now. everyone has them. we can't get a good ST or SCT class going on a daily basis, only once in a blue moon. At this track and my area, locally, indoors, atleast. Outdoors and different regions can be different.

@Suburban_Hooligan
Although, I will have to say, on/at the carpet tracks, there can be a pretty decent stadium truck scene.
I haven't raced the rustler on carpet in over 2 years (well, that one time I tried to race I did it with the buggies) but I wouldn't personally try to race it against modern trucks because I know for sure the gap behind the pace will be much larger on carpet rather than clay since carpet is more needy on setups. Same for SCT for the slash, unless I Mid Motor convert them like @luke66 has trying to get me to do for the past year, I might be able to close that gap, only if I had consistent practice testntune like track days which I don't have in my modern race career if you wanna put it that way.

Now if I had the time and money to get some actual pin dirt tires and drive +40ish minutes north (Pit Stop Hobbies in PA), I could race outdoor dirt and racing the rustler and slash there would be more forgiving since those cars, outdoor dirt is their natural habitat. Lol. (There is a backyard dirt track that does race about 35 minutes from home but he only does like 2 or 3 scheduled races per year and he uses trackmate system so I'm like its not worth it if I only race there once, right? Spend like 200 bucks in tires for 2 cars plus 40 bucks for 2 transponders ill only use once a year? Not happening imo.) I know, I try to support all of my local tracks all equally but I tend to support my local indoor ones more so they can stay open bc if they magically go away, people (and me) would have to drive out further.

But besides that mini rant, I'm open next weekend for another race day but if I do I'll most likely only run 1 class to keep it simple and more relaxed.

Man I wish I noticed all of this before I ordered my tires earlier this week lol. My new tires (2 sets for clay 1 for carpet) should be here later tonight. But looked over the cars today and this is the damage on the 22. Rear arm cracked, binding on the hinge pin not letting the shock extend all the way down. And front camber block for the sway bar broke. My buddy has some TLR spares so ill see what he and the shop has. Planning on going up to the shop near my house thats closing in a few weeks to see what they have but I highly doubt they'll have TLR race parts.

The arm being cracked could have made my axle popped out in the first place.

id super glue the crack, put the arm in a vise to hold it closed over night, run the proper size drill bit through the hinge pin hole and let it eat. ;) ...for about 6 minutes... iv actually done that. it worked for a short time. didn't try it on a track though. worked great racing around a baseball field with friends though.

For carpet season just got a new set of PM Viper C3s for the 4wd. should be alot better than the fuzz bites, not in grip because its all medium compound but in wear, plus the fronts on these are low profile where 4wd fuzz bites from Jcon are not.

Edit: Fuzz Bites are low profile. Maybe to me they aren't since fronts seem more rounded than flat.

Did do another track day 2 days after the last post on here, did get some footage but I still have to go through all of that, will post another update once I do that, whenever that will be. Lol. (It's not really a chore to update my blog every race day, its mainly for me so I can come back to it in the future, for laughs and memories and such. ;) , and for most other people to see how and what the average club racer sees each day, which oddly most racers really don't go really in depth about. Since most racers dont do it, most newer people who want to get into racing, they might not get into it bc they think it might be too scary to do so or to needy/busy/condensed but. in my eyes I don't see it that way, for funclub racing)

Planning on going to the backyard 1/8 track this weekend to get some laps and some testing for the Typhon project, and also just to bash around and stuff, as I won't be going to a track till November so I will take that month of time to get parts and get everything rebuilt and ready for the 25-26 carpet/winter/indoor season of racing!
To start the season off, going up to The Factory for their Open House practice day for some "shaking off the rust" and "testing new tires and gear ratios" so yea. should be a fun season!
