Hey Folks!

Decided instead of making a new thread for each event or prep I would just start one and keep the comp info here.

Latest event was just announced, close out of the indoor season; April 25th Final Indoor Throwdown! Epic Comp Crawl

I'll be entering the usual suspects; TRX4-M, Apex 18 and my Stance aka Faux Mullet

A few things popped up in my last event and the truck just wasn't performing up to the standards I need it too - It was hesitating going into reverse/brief pause and I have felt for a while it needs more front weight.

I had my eye on a new brass servo but for less than half the money I can put brass portal covers on and replace the pot metal.

Plus besides adding weight the 1100 has been kicking bum.

Here's what we got;

Doesn't seem like that big of a deal!
Just take this brushed setup our and reverse process!

It proved to be a little challenging!

So we got the Mamba Micro V1 tucked up as close to the front as possible on the slider, the CC BEC tied back in and the CC motor mounted up with an 11t because that's all I had that would fit. I could probably go up to a 13 but there was no way to fit the 15 tooth back.

There is also a temp sensor on the can because I have it and I am curious to monitor it during the initial few runs.

I definitely now understand why 2-1 are the preferred solutions in these things; tough to tuck it all in there, impossible to make it look good.

Next up are VP brass weights!

fantastic! can't wait to folow along, you NEED to make a youtube channel to record the events, i know one guy who will watch em all lol

Your comment has inspired me, not to start another channel, but to be able to film while comp driving!

I ordered a universal chest mount and a lapel mic that can plug into my phone.

I think the next thing is to find out the schedule of the day and setup a streaming schedule based on classes I'll be running.

What do we think?

All the gear to improve my filming game has arrived.

Honestly, the mount is super nice! I can't believe I didn't think to do this earlier with all the filming I have been doing.
The shoulder straps are similar to a wetsuit material and the front buckle makes it easy to put on. The phone mount also feels like decent quality and I like that the adjustment screw has an obvious metal nut.

When I modeled it Mrs Creepy said, "We can film spicy content with that thing!"

Just double check the ceiling before you go mounting a mirror and stobe lights up there! 😲

So I took the truck out last Thursday to open practice.
I liked the changes the electronics made to the driving characteristics; more instantaneous response, no more deadband going into reverse. Basically fixed everything I was expecting.

However, it seems like it has gotten really loud.
I don't know if it's just me but you can check it out here:

This is after removing the transmission, changing the pinion and meshing it again.

I don't know 🤷🏼‍♂️

Update April 16th
I listened to audio of it new and it definitely wasn't whisper quiet.

Anyway, the point of the post is to discuss preparing for the next comp. I wanted to increase front axle weight so I picked up a set of these;

1000010072.webp

Prior to changing anything let's take a ready to go weight, batt, body, etc.

1000010092.webp

That front percentage is about what I remember.

I was hoping by installing the front weights we would see the percentage change a bit.

1000010093.webp

Hmm
At .85 cents a gram Canadian I was hoping to see a bit more. I was concerned the large offset ones would interfere with the wheels hence the low offset.

So I had picked up a new battery at the same time because it was 50% off, let's toss that in the front and see what happens.

Bingo.

So, I'll make up a small tray out of something.
I'll creep my scrap lexan bin and see what I can come up with. At worst I'll just ziptie it in the front for now.

I'm going to take it to practice tomorrow, supposed to be meeting up with a guy there for a bunch of 3D printed stuff I ordered. We shall see how it does.

Last thing that I want to do before the comp is clean it; wash the tires, maybe a soak in some simple green to get them nice and tacky again.

Today was open practice so I took out my Apex18, Mini Z 4x4 and my Stance. Buddy who I was going to run my Apex against had vehicle trouble so I didn't run that much.

I got some videos of the other two though, here's the first one I finished.

The Stance is really dialed in with the battery on the nose. Last thing to do is wash the tires up on everything and make sure my maintenance checks are completed for Saturday.

Oh, and the chest mount works pretty good. I have to stop a lot and adjust angle, but it's nice to have my hands free. It is a tad distracting though and it took a few minutes to get used to wearing it. I had a hiccup in the first 30-40 seconds of the run where I looked down at my phone and ran wide to the left instead of driving through a gate.

I'll have to pay less attention to filming and more to driving at the comp.

Well, here we are.

Today is the last day to go over everything and make sure I am gtg.

It's crazy to look back at the beginning and see where I am now!

When it comes to filming or live streaming I am really leaning towards filming and editing everything.

I don't really have a schedule for the day to share what classes are running at what time.

My expectations are low as far as my performance goes, the competition is STIFF and I want to keep myself in check.

That was my biggest hurdle this season; keeping emotions in check, keeping pace in check, BREATH!

I suppose next will be the summer season; outdoor competitions!

It'll be easier for filming and commentary. They blast copyrighted music in the Mile High Crawl Center all the time so it's hard to do any audio recording.
