Hey guys,

My parents computer is acting weird. I'm not sure if it's a virus, trojan horse, etc. So what happens is whatever it is is telling me about the fake anti-virus stuff. So I quickly deny all of them. I tried AVG free and Spybot, but nothing. Whenever it asks if I want to remove the errors, it says file location not specified or something like that. Also, it stopped us from accessing the internet with it. If I try to run Firefox or any other browser, it will just stop loading. If I click refresh, it doesn't want to. It just says in the bottom bar "Done" with a blank white screen. I was thinking if the repair option from the XP CD will help, but I'm not sure. Can anyone help me? Thanks!

download avast and malwarebytes, both are free and available with a quick google. update them and scan. see what comes up. you may also have a corrupt winsock stack. but clean with those first and let us know.

+1 here. Malwarebytes cleaned everything that AVG left behind. Great program. Run the full scan after update. It will take a while once you start it, but it will clean your PC well.

Malwarebytes saved my butt last October. I was so elated that it fixed me that I bought it so I could have the constant monitoring the registered version has. It's caught things 4-5 other times since.

I had a similar issue as yours, but my wallpaper became some lovely animal porn... My wife came out in the living room and asked if I could take a look at the computer... apparently a friend of hers sent her an email that just screwed my computer six ways from sunday. I had to actually download malwarebytes from another PC because whatever it was killed my internet connection and infected all of my windows check points, so I couldn't roll back to the latest checkpoint. Also killed my mcafee...

McAfee needs to be killed.

MBAM (Malwarebytes Anti-Malware) saved me a few months ago, too. I got infected with something that was infecting all of my web searches. MBAM was the only thing that found it. MBAM and Hijack This! seem to be the killer combo, these days.

Hence the flaw of windows lol... Avast is a very good program.. After you get it fixed download a program called CCleaner it will speed up your computer..
