Merry Christmas from you to YOU. I'm sure you deserved it...at least YOU thought so. :)
I bought WoodiE's QX2. Just haven't had a chance to throw it at the sky yet.

I bet its got $3000 worth of after market parts on it and about 3 dozen coats of wax by now. it probably can't even get off of the ground now lol.

@HPIguy Yeah, I've been wanting one for about a year or so now and now I want the Yuneec q500 typhoon! lol

I have a couple questions about this thing now though maybe you guys can help me here.
1) so you only have to register it if it weighs a pound or more now? I thought it was if it was over 250g you had to? is that a pound with or without the camera attached for the purposes of registration?
2) speaking of the camera...when you switch the TX to gimble control can you only scan up and down with it? I thought you could turn it from side to side as well however when I tried it, it only went up and down unless you physically turn the quad in which case the camera will try and stay focused where it was and slowly pan around to the new facing. I'm guessing its designed that way but I just want to verify that my unit isnt defective.
3) what is the highest capacity miroSD supported by the camera?
4) is there a way to get rid of the 100m range limitation on it? I thought these things were supposed to be able to go like a mile or so.
5) my phone doesn't have 5.8ghz wifi on it and I dont really want to upgrade phones. Anyone have a suggestion on a decent cheaper phone I might be able to pick up for cheap on ebay or somethign that does support 5.8ghz wifi?

Thanks in advance for any insight. :)

At that price point, and honestly for all larger multi rotors period, I highly recommend building it yourself, and not relying on BNF or RTF stuff for numerous reasons.

The weight for registration purposes is anything over 250g. The QX350 is one that needs to be registered.

That is .55lbs as stated, straight from the FAA page;

Which unmanned aircraft do I have to register?
Owners must register their UAS online if it meets the following guidelines:

  • Weighs more than 0.55 lbs. (250 g) and less than 55 lbs. (25 kg). Unmanned Aircraft weighing more than 55 lbs. cannot use this registration process and must register using the Aircraft Registry process.

And yes, the QX 350 and most quads capable of carrying any decent amount of gear will have to be registered. Lots of guys on other forums building up custom 250 weight weenie quads to be under the weight limit.

nVidia Shield K1 Tablet. And the good news is that I don't have to register it with the FAA.

I'm with Hamz, I got new gadgets to keep me occupied for winter time. Seriously considering not flying next year with all the BS surrounding it, and the fact that I simply have too many hobbies, and I'd rather be in the woods on a bike, which as of yet, hasn't been regulated.

But it IS regulated. You can be ticketed for unlawful operation.

anyone able to answer questions 2, 3, 4, or 5?

I highly doubt I will get anything bigger than the 350qx. I have a lot of other things Id rather have. :)

A mile would be a damn long ways for a quad that size. Most of your really long range FPV flights are done with fixed wings, since you can glide for extended periods of time, or at least fly at very low throttle settings. Whereas multi rotors simply beat the air (and thus their batteries) into submission.

Sorry, don't have any answers for any of the others, and I'm not familiar with the hardware itself.

Nice buy. One of the most powerful tablets out there, only beaten by the google pixel C with it's tegra X1- which is much less interesting and has a more boring shape than the shield. Are you planning on getting the controller for it?

Just breed a bunch of kids. No license required, no IQ test, no proof of financial responsibility needed.
They must be some very clever sheep you're mating with there.

No, the games I want to play use mouse and keyboard.

Makes sense, at least you know you have the power to play more demanding games on the tablet like GTA. Plus it helps in video playback and other tasks.

I've had an Android game (The Simpsons: Tapped Out) that crashes and freezes on everything else and it plays as smooth as butter on the Shield.
