I brought a nitro R/C car about 5 months ago and the first thing i did was take off the pull start and replace it with an electric starter (one of these) http://i15.ebayimg.com/04/i/001/1d/89/fb60_1_sbl.JPG

it worked fine for the 1st few months and then i took it all apart for a good clean and when i out it together it worked once and now it won't go.

When i use the electric starter to get it going it just spins int the hole.

it usually makes a turning over sound but not anymore.

was just wondering if anyone knows what the problem might be.

thanks and i hope this makes sense.

Dylan

EDIT: also if you want any pics of anything on it just ask

possibly the one way bearing might be gone, or you may have put it back in the wrong way around??

From what i gathered when i undid the starter plate on the car you can't put them on the wrong way.

but yeah it doesn't sound like the cogs are making contact

The One Way bearing may also need to be cleaned in some denatured alcohol.

Yeah, thanks the starter is working now.

but the fuel won't pass through the lines, for some reason

You have a fuel system clog or leak somewhere. Make sure the tank cap is sealing and that none of the fuel lines have clogs or holes. If you took the back plate, header, or carb off of the engine, they will need to be sealed with copper, high-temp, sensor-safe rtv.

All i took off was the plate for the electric starter.

I think i will take it too the R/C shop

I was trying to avoid it cause it is like a 1 1/2 hour drive

Yes I'm positive it is turning over properly now

but the fuel won't pass through the lines, for some reason

Are ya sure you put the lines back on correctly? Vent line goes from the muffler/pipe to the fuel tank "cap" inlet.. Fuel line goes from the tank outlet to carb inlet.. And make sure ya have the carb primed before tryin to start it! Good luck!

It won't prime that's the problem.

i have tried fresh fuel. made sure there is no holes in the fuel lines.

i dunno what is wrong there

Are you plugging the exhaust with your finger, then turning it over? If it won't prime then, you have either have a clogged tank/line or your idle/hsn are set so low that they are shutting of fuel/air flow. I say air, because there is air in the line. If the HSN is cranked all the way down, it will create a seal that won't let even air pass through to prime with fuel.

Yeah I'm plugging the exhaust . how do i turn up the HSN?

Find out how many turns out it needs to be and the screw it out. Make sure you screw it in first, but not hard, just until it feels a little tighter. It's probably anywhere from 3-1/2 to 5 full turns out, but check your manual or online.

Ok i got it going, turns out the backplate for the electric starter wasn't sitting flush, and the gasket behind the motor connecting to the exhaust pipe was cracked.

OK now i have a new problem with it. for some reason when i plug the exhaust pipe to kill the engine it wont stop it keeps going. i have to disconnnect the fuel line from the carby then it stops after a few seconds

If you plug the exhaust and the engine doesn't shut off, there's nothing else it could be. It has to be the exhaust system. The gases are escaping somewhere along the exhaust system, allowing the engine to stay running.
