Ok, I purchased a used truggy roller (ofna jamming crt x2) off ebay. I just installed all new electronics in it, Mamba Monster 2200kv and ESC, Futaba s9351 digital high torque servo and a brand new Ofna Radio. I'm running two Onyx 3s 5000 lipos in it. My problem is the truggy has so much play in the front end that I can't keep the stupid thing straight. I just got the thing out of the shop and I've crashed it each time I've run it, the last crash broke that $100 servo. Anyway I been reading on the web about people using gyros to keep their cars straight at high speeds. Does anyone know how this works? If so what kind of gyro should be used and how is it hooked up? How much do they cost, what brand etc... Any Info would be helpful, tired of crashing :(.
 
I would look into getting rig of the play in the front end first. The gyro may not be able to work right if there is too much play in the front, even if it does the servo may be so active trying to keep the truggy straight that it burns out.

Don't cure the problem, fix the problem. If you can't keep the truggy in a straight line because of the steering play, fix the steering play.

FYI - I gyro will automatically counter steer for you. If you set up your car correctly, and practice driving, you won't need a gyro.

No offense, but it sounds like you just need to learn to drive better. All rigs drive differently whether it be rc or 1:1. You need to adapt yourself to the rigs, not the other way around.

None Taken, you're probably right. I just can't figure how to get all the play out of the front, everything is tight, nothing is bent or broken, so I don't know what else to do. The rig doesn't just drift, it actually pulls. I'm kinda stumped as to what to do. That's why I thought maybe a gyro would help.
 
What do you call play? Depending on what radio setup you have, you could try adjusting your end points and have more control over the steering. It will limit how tightly you can actually turn, but will give more control.
 
Does your radio have an expo adjustment?

Check your toe - run 2 degrees out.

Try some heavier oil in the front diff.

X2, as above, limit your end point, it will dumb down the steering so it doesn't feel too twitchy.
 
The front hubs seem to have way to much play all around, I know there supposed to be some play, but this what I would call "slop". I brought it used so maybe its the bearings, cause everything elses is tight, one of my tie rod ends was a little loose but I tighten that and still got some slop.
 
check where the pins hold the A-arms to the bulkheads some OFNA buggies I had used to have alot of play where the arms would actually shift forward and back. the needed plastic clips that kept falling off, and when I replaced them the new ones always needed to be sanded down the slightest amount to prevent binding.
If the bearings aren't sitting n the carriers nicely you may have some bad plastics. one of the first upgrades I did to my OFNA was the CnC axle carriers all around.
replace the bearings anyway. if you arent sure of the rig's history change it.
if you can put it on an alignment station. if not break out the calipers and start counting threads to get all four corners as aligned as possible.
