Ok here goes, we took my daughter to the zoo this morning and we had been there for a while and I had already snapped off about 100+ pix. Well from one picture to the next all of a sudden I'm only getting about 1/3 of the image, the rest is black. I downloaded to card to make sure and the images are that way on the card too. I also tried different cards, same thing. We stopped on the way home to look at the new Canon 30D and the guy there was thinking it could be the prizm, but he was too busy selling some 70 year old couple a piece of poop $200 camera to really help me. I was like hey stupid, I'm ready to drop $1300 right now and all the time you need to spend with me is to ring it up. His loss. My urgency is we are leaving for vacation in less than 2 weeks. We have the extended warranty on the Digital Rebel that is broke, not a big deal but it will leave us without a camera once we send it in. We've been wanting to upgrade to the 30D anyway but I wasn't quite ready. Currently have the camera going through a sensor cleaning (which is rather lengthy) and will reset to factory defaults in case I hosed something up but I didn't touch anything from the last good picture to the first bad picture and they were only taken about 2 minutes apart. TIA!

Snap off a few without the lens and see if the shutter is functioning properly.
That is a weird issue that I never heard of. Have you tried to format the card 2-3 times? Also may want to check and see if there is a firmware update.

FYI. Staples has a no questions asked 100% extended warrantee. At any time for any reason no questions asked you can exchange your camera for another or get the full price applied to any other camera you want. I paid 140.00 for the warrantee and just exchanged my Rebel for the new 8mp unit. In 23 months I'm going to either exchange it for a new one or upgrade to the next better unit when it comes out. All I have to do is get another warrantee and I'm covered for another 2 more years.

Yeah I tried that too Eddy, thanks. Everything appears to operate normally. I'll have to check at Staples and see if they have the camera (30D). Latest firmware is also what is on the camera. UGHHHHH!!!!!!!!

Thanks, unfortunately it's not the first time! No more excuses, will most likely upgrade and then either keep the fixed camera or sell it. Couple guys on a photo forum think it's probably a spring for the mirrors. They also said that shutter life is about 50K photos, we're about 5-6K past that.

Wifey is burning it up! Our first one died three weeks after we got it and they replaced it, this one has seen 50K+ in just under two years!! I'm really trying to get her to do something with her "hobby" and maybe make some money on the side, she takes some really nice photos.

First Kid Eh?

Next camera will last 3-4 more kids!

Good Luck with the camera issues.
